Why not have it public?? it's a public forum at the end of the day!!

Because when 2 people want to have a private discussion or arrange a meeting... swap phone numbers... swap addresses etc, posting such info in a public forum would not be such a good idea :doh

and often a thread that 2 people are continuously debating over can be taken to pm for resolution without other coming in on the righteous bandwagon
