View Full Version : Truck will have to wait.
Well I was going to get another Mistral for work and plenty of towing but its gonna have to wait now
Just been and blown the cash
But I have got a new toy 8)
I was offered a fairground organ that is just the right size to fit in the childrens roundabout last week and could not resist. Been like a big kid all week and every time I start it i get this silly grin on my face
Not to sure about the neighbours though, got a mate coming round tommorrow so the organ will be outside playing its heart out for an hour or so.
Could I be the first person in the country to get an ASBO for playing old time music ???
cheers

Oh man Steve, I wish you lived closer because I would be arranging a mini meet at your place tomorrow.
Jim T
can we have some pictures
Some closet organ fans 8)
OK the organ was made by Alan Pell music of Spalding and is a Harmidi system. Harmidi means that instead of the old cardboard books and the drum with all the pins in it to play music the system uses computer midi files.
ALL of the tunes are stored on a floppy disc which goes through a midi file player to the computer in the bottom of the organ. There is a blower in the bottom which fills the windchest with air and the computer then opens and closes the valves at the appropiate time to blow air through the pipes to make the notes.
The organ I have is a 30 key model with some extra pipes, glockenspiel, bass drum, cymbol and snare drum. You can hear what it sounds like here
http://www.alanpell.com/Modular_Organs/Modular%20Organs.htm
There was 70 different tunes that came with the organ, but I would like a few more, trouble is they are about £13 each !!!
The front was painted by a very well known fairground artist called Bobby Ayres, but it is too big for my little ride so it is going to have to be changed.
Basic case size is 27 inches across and 39 inches high and I just about managed to get it all into the Mistral to get it home.
On the trip home I put a cd in and then cursed the wife for not being able to set a stereo up properly because all I was getting was loads of bass, until I realised that the passenger door speaker was playing up into the bass drum
A couple of bumpy roads turned out to be quite tunefull too, and the rumble strips leading up to a couple of roundabouts made it sound like the local sea cadet band was in the back of the motor 8O :o :o
My mate came round on Sunday and sure enough within 20 minutes there was an irate neighbour knocking on the door, no class some people
I will post a couple of pictures in the gallery.
cheers

Hi Jace,
if I remember right there are loads of problems with Freds gear, I think the engines had to be taken out in a hurry because they had been vandalised. Not sure where I read it probably Old glory magazine or the like.

Oh steve, it sounds fantastic mate!!!!!. Neighbours who needs em, I'm just having hassle with mine, just because my new extension has been built 8 inches on to his land  but that's another story. I'm a regular on the steam rally circuit in my area and love it to bits, I even have an exibit stand (Radio Ham Station) at Leeds Steam Spectacular. It's a real shame about Fred's engines. I keep looking glossy eyed at Grey Fergies but wife wont let me

AH, what you have to do Jim is persuade her that if you buy one it will help keep her in the manner she has become accustomed too. Thats what I do, but then it might be a bit more difficult with a grey Fergie.
I have decided to try and keep one step ahead of the neighbours by inviting the Enviromental Health people round with their decibel meter to test the noise levels and see what I can get away with. It could be worse I could take up banger racing or even tractor pulling !!! 8O
I suppose that really I am quite lucky in as much as I love what I do and it is a case of my hobby becoming my living. Another two years and all being well I can get shot of the concrete mixer and concentrate on the amusements.

Hello SteveN,
This would not be the same Spalding as where i live could it, "Alan Pell music of Spalding" Small world if it is, Yet the name Pell has been a name that’s known locally.
(You can see the photos in the gallery).
Mav.
you just dont tell the wife what your buying just hide any recepts an lie about how much lol
Is this the type of music you are after as the prices seem a bit cheaper here.

STEVE
how do u think i got caught lol
Hi Mav,
Yep looks like your quite close.
Those music lists you found are for a smaller organ and are like a small cartridge to look at rather than a floppy disc, I have got a list from another music arranger with some very good tunes on. His prices vary from £6.50 up to £18 for a lengthy medley. This guy has one tune that I have got to get. Apparently he has done an arrangement of the Monty Python Lumber Jack song
cheers
STEVE
like an 8 track? mav and some of the ol boys will remember/understand those lol!

Yeah that Mav is a bit long in the tooth he's sure to remember 8 tracks, I bet he had one in a Mk1 Escort with jacked up rear springs and a silver axle with a red light shinning on it   With Ross Style wheels, jeez how come I remember so much
Jim T
PS Steve, if you get lumber jack you will have to do a small recording and email to us.
Tell you something Jim,
That’s not far from the truth. I did all that but without the Ross Style wheels i had 1300E wheels same as the Capri Laser.
Even had fur stuck to the dash.
Along time ago now.
Mav.
P.S. SteveN, If i can collect or help with postage then let me know.

Mick, I used to long for one when I passed my test. Now I'd love one 8O
Jim T
Thanks for the offer Mav I will keep it in mind.
I purposely didn't say that the cartridges were like an a small 8 track cos it would give my age away
Rostyle wheels ? had some of them on my mk1 1600gt Capri and yes it was Aubergine with a matt black bonnet.
cheers
