This is the worst Renault site I've ever been on!!! I demand a refund!

All I want to know is how difficult is a timing belt change and nobody bloody knows???

Disgraceful. :doh

Seriously....just bought No2 daughter a 2001 Clio 1.2 16v and guessing it needs a belt change as no sign of one in the book - any of you buggers ever done one, or know a man who did?

I know theres an embarrassed Scenic owner here somewhere ....

You bought your daughter one of them:eek:god my kids would never speak to me again if I got them one:augie set fire to it save's you the hard work:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

well thankfully i only put £250 in, her gran and mother (not-so-beloved ex-wife!!!!) put the rest up.

she nagged the crap out of me to buy it, despite me eyeing up a tidy little corsa - can't argue with daughters!

having said that, a clio saved my wifes life three years ago...whats your beef with them then Sweety? Is it gonna be that bad???

it's not something i would recommened to do unless your a mechanic they are not easy to do and if you mess the timing up you'll end up blowing the engine and it'll need a lot of new stuff then.

not worried about the doing of it....just wasn't sure how accessible and what tools are needed; as Ex says, I know you need locking pins but sounds like I'd better speak to Mr Haynes....

It's made by the French:doh seen alot blow their heads & gaskets, snap their timming belts (I know your going to get that done) suspension bushes never seemed to last that long, a coke can is made from thicker metal:lol& they have the wierdest shaped gear knobs & pedal oh did I mention they were french:augie
Sorry give me a Fiesta any day:thumbs

tell me, i could barely get in the damned thing to drive it home but then I'm 6'3", but daughter is 5'10" so she won't be much better....don't know what they see in them myself...

Well things are looking up.....

Holding water, so head gasket seems OK...the guy who MOT'd it spent an hour with me showing me what he'd tested and found (or not) so happy about most things, except it was still stalling - not good for a kids first car!

But tonight I picked the little darling up from work for a lesson and got there early, so had a fiddle under the bonnet and think I've cured it.

Theres a long and very convoluted rubber pipe with quick-release ends, one end attached to a pipe on the l/h side of the rocker cover, and the other going down into something mounted underneath and behind the l/h side headlight, so not very visible, but it has two electrical connections as well...I established that without the pipe, when you revved the engine the revs stayed high for quite a while before falling off again...after blowing through the pipe and replacing it the car ran perfectly for the next hour, but the problem started to creep back....it seems the pipe has 2-3 points where its tended to kink, plus the rubber is not in great nick, so I reckon its compressing at times under vacuum...have to source a new pipe tomorrow but wondered if anyone knew what the hell it was?

Probably bleedin obvious if I think about it - but its a Reno, I can't be bovvered!!!:doh
