for some reason the use of bl***ed out letters to poorly disguise swear words has become fashionable again, probably by those with limited language skills or just think it puts their point over better, but it ain't BIG and it ain't CLEVER, so grow up and clean it up.
i swear a lot at work, but not in the public domain, and certainly not on public forums!

OOOOH ! get you!
Well I dont swear at all at work or at home for that matter, however, from time time shit happens:eek:
On such an occasion I would dearly love to swear my ass off , public or not.
Is there actually a swearing policy on here ? Is it OK after 9 o'clock?
I have from time to time had a bloody awful day and wouldn't dream of using the words I'm thinking. So doing the odd **** seems a good idea.
So go grow up yourself OR get Bat to legislate...............:doh

Billy Connolly once said that there is no such thing as bad language just language used badly and lets face it his shows wouldn't be so funny without his use of swearing. I too swear in the right place at the right time but I have to say the use of swearing on here is getting a bit OTT. I have the right to just not read some threads if they offend me however if you look at the bigger picture and think of new members being put off by the use of swearing.

My personal, very humble opinion is that blanking out "bad language" (and who exactly is the arbiter of good taste in such matters when the 'f' and 'c' words regularly appear even in the 'quality' press?) at least shows respect to other site users who might be offended - although I think most folk here are more intelligent than that...

I am sure any of our Irish friends here will tell you that Father Jack is not a made up character (OK maybe he's a wee bit OTT! LOL!) and use of the word 'feck' for example is common among the clergy in some parts of Ireland - and whats the difference between that and an asterisk?

But debating aside, the correct procedure if you don't like something is to take it up with a moderator, not start a flameout thread like this...grown ups don't like to be lectured as a rule you'll find....no offence intended and none taken.

The clergy and other authority figures here including our Taoiseach,(Prime Minister) would regularly use a lot more than feck. LOL. Father Jack or his brother could probably be found in a lot of parishes here. Alcoholism is pretty common among Catholic priests, sadly, they spend too many evenings alone.

well it seems the swearing on posts has hit a new high i remember the club when it was a pleasure to post and members were glad of each others help and the site was a propoer site not just becoming a standard junk type web site.

ok well im not fussed either way.... but if it offends some then its worth spending some time to come to a compromise....

my suggestion is that swearing should be allowed in the pub only.

just a thaught

team wales use the social groups for the really offensive stuff. like beach and donut vids......

slap on the wrist coming up....... christ i could be a modd with all my good ideas lol

Here we go again this topic pops up every now and then rattles on for a few pages then goes quiet.

We are all adults and as adults we should respect each others differences. Some swear some don't if you were in a pub or at work would you say anything?

As for kids on the site i've never known more than a handfull and they never posted. And don't try telling me that kids don't use or hear that same language at school our out with there mates. It's up to the parents to educate them. There is a time and a place for everything.

If someone is regulary abusing the site and using it in a harsh way then report to admin. If someone had had a very bad day and want's to let off some steam thats ok with me from time to time.

Well there is no need to promote swearing is there:augieAs far as I understand this site was a family based site so TBH there should'nt really be swearing on here.

bad day ????? ............................................

no thanks i already have several

i don't swear much and mostly for descriptive purposes.
but i think the pub area is self descriptive you aint allowed in in unless your an adult..... it should be treated as such, adults only

maybe bat could open a coffee bar for the non offensive chit chat

if you look back we have had very heated arguments about caravans, someone leaving and so on with really quite offensive talk. some could say its almost bullying and that offends me, but i guess in life you have to accept everyone is different and therefore have different expectations of the club. on the whole

but i will say my observations now.... it does appear less regulars are visiting in the evenings

I would not wish to promote swearing but it is part of everyday life you cannot control what others will say. Either in a pub a playground or on a website.
I can swear like a trooper but also I try not to use language in front of my kids or parents out of respect.

But on occasion it does happen:augie

As for a family based site:eek: How many of your wifes or kids want to read posts on duff viscous fans etc..

The only family orientated site related events are the rallies and they don't get much support nowadays:(

do you not find it embarrassing to have poor control of the Queens English ?
And from the replys to the post it seems you are in a minority group,

As for the Queens English, well I think I've got a handle on it now, at least that's what my O and A levels say:cool:
I would still like to know , however, if there is any language restriction on here?
I'm not sure how many posts I've done, but for the main part I think you'll find them all pretty tame and swear free,so there:p
PS
It's raining here too:(

extreme-4x4
07-03-2009, 21:22
i would say there is no restriction on words used, as they seem to self edit the bad words,
i assume its now more relaxed , i remember once i said rhymes with duck and got told off .... and p.m'd so its definitely relaxed now.

from what i understand its bats policy to let the site evolve and as long as people are respectful to each other then that's fine

ssteve

"I would still like to know , however, if there is any language restriction on here?"

self control would be much better

"I'm not sure how many posts I've done, but for the main part I think you'll find them all pretty tame and swear free,so there"

so why use foul language???

"PS
It's raining here too"

as always??
