Well I'm back home again having picked up my latest maverick. It's a P reg TDi 2.7 intercooler da de da oil burner:cool:
Is it me or is it meant to be 1st gear woosh,2nd gear woosh,3rd gear woosh, 4th gear woosh, 5th gear woosh, well that was painful!:o
It seems like a very narrow power band/rev range:nenau
With the petrol it was all grrr to 5000rpm 1st,2nd,3rd,then it was illegal!
Is it me? Will I get used to it?
ANYWAY one thing's for sure the oil burner is much more economical, just done 300 miles on 3/4 of a tank. Driven as hard as I could bear at 85 m/way and then noisily on the local roads home:clap
So I will def. be looking for some more POWERR , so Tuneit chip coming up me thinks:sly
Anybody got any other ideas for extending power band?

Me thinks it may need a service. Also I would be cleaning the infamous MAF. Mine aint no slow coach.

I dont think it's slow it's just you got to go through the gears PDQ.
I will be in service mode this weekend but is the MAF servicable? If so how so as I thought it was an electronic gizmo?!

MiF, thats sounds perfect to me, these are built and run like real trucks with a narrow
but tall torque curve.
each gear has its own speed range.
along lines of 1st upto 10mph, 2nd 20mph, 3rd 30, 4th 40 and 5th 50+.
enjoy you can still give hatches a run for their money just make smooth
and not rushed gear changes.
round town under 30 limit generally keep it in 3rd as more responsive and
better engine braking....and no you dont use more fuel before asking. its
a technique approved by Institute of Advanced Motorists.
keep on truckin'.

Get yourself an automatic, select 'Sport' (deliberately in inverted commas LOL) and switch O/D off and its a solid woosh from 0-70 :o:o:o
Probably helps having lower rpm/MPH than manual box of course....:naughty:naughty

i used to love going up to Olivers Fort when I lived in Pewsham. Great views.
I was disappointed when I first bought the terrano, I thought a large diesel would be very flexible, but its just the opposite ... forever changing gear not like the premeria I had before
which would drive at walking pace in 3rd gear and then on to well over 90mph!
Maf easy to clean, unplug the socket, take out two screws and gently pull out the sensor. Clean the two filaments with switch cleaner or something similar, I use cotton buds on a stick
but a good spray directly washes of the muck........regards bri

Well remember the auto is geared very low - doing just 3000rpm at an indicated 90mph, so if it was doing a walking pace in third it would be turning over at a suicidally low rpm - the biggest strain you can put on an engine is to run it at near stall speed, it puts immense loading on the crank.
Mine doesn't 'hunt' very much at all I have to say, although it depends how hard you press the loudness pedal I guess...

moan moan moan.... who else pays 500.00 for a tdi then moans about it.
and you got a cup holder too..... some people are never happy :lol:lol:lol:lol
if you cant live with it ill give you the 500.00 for it :nenau
and i bet you haggled too:sly
oil burners release there horse power in one go so you have a few secounds of high power and then low power. but petrols release there horse power slowly so the power is just a small press of the pedal away.

understandable though, its probably the older plastic cupholder and it breaks dead easy - the later ones are wire so much better!

I've been out to work in it today and cleaned the MAF thing, but I cant see any obviuos change!
So I'm going to give it a good seeing to at the weekend:cool:

if yours is an early tdi you could have a mini filter
change the air filter and some new oils etc
when the orange light for fuel comes on slip 10 litre of kero in it that will clean her out. usual rules apply don't get stopped before you fill up with diesel
