After owning a wonderful Nissan Skyline I moved house to one that is in the middle of a field 1/4 mile away from the nearest road and the lowered, kitted 400BHP beast couldn't handle it (kept grounding) so I took the decision to stop wrecking it and buy my self something that can deal with the new terrain.

After a bit of research I finally decided to go for another jap import and what I think is a nice looking Terrano R3M (I will ad a pic to my profile once I get one sorted out).

Since buying this car I have noticed a knocking, I thought great anti roll bar bushes, and after a couple of days bouncing up and down the lane to my house, there was a clunk. I took it to my local garage and he has told me that I need new anti roll bar links on all four corners (one of the front ones has ripped out of it's housing) and new anti roll bar bushes on the rear. Thankfully my local garage only charges £25 per hour labor so although it will be painful it wont be deadly to fix.

My real question here is, does anyone know what kind of fuel economy I should be expecting? I have the 2.7TD running through an auto box and I am finding that the economy is just as low as the Skyline that I mentioned earlier. I was hoping to get something above 22MPG average off a full tank.

There are also some other issues I would like to ask about which are about the engine temperature, I don't seem to get any unless I am going up hill and have got the turbo whistling for an extended period. It has never got high enough to cause concern but in this cold weather I would like to have a warm cab as I am driving to work.

Second issue, the auto box seems to be weak. When I come to a stop on a hill I leave the car in drive and the auto box doesn't hold and the car will roll back. This is the firs auto box I have had and I expected it to hold me stationary on a hill start. Is there a simple fix for this (and please don't say another gearbox).

All in all I am happy with the car and the roll bar bushes and links will be fixed on the next payday but the fuel economy and the other two issues above make me think I have bought a dog of a car, can someone out there please make me happy and tell me that the car is good and there are a couple of common easily fixed things that I can do to make this car solid.

Thanks in advance to you all.

Hi R3M & welcome to the club:thumb2:D:thumb2:D with yours being an auto I would think about 25MPG would be your average, but it could be about 22MPG:confused:I would have a look under the banjo bolt on the fuel pump to see if it has a mini filter fitted, if it has then a good clean should help with the MPG so would changing the main fuel filter & the air filter:)As for the engine temp all Terrano's seem to run a bit on the cooler side due to the large rad thats fitted

welcome to the club R3M, you will soon have the truck sorted, i dont know about economy but i changed my thermostat and my gauge sit's just under half way and heater is more than warm enough, and it's a simple job to change thermostat, it's all in the down loads. :thumb2

Hi from Ludlow area!

DEFINATELY get the thermostat replaced / cooling system flushed & checked out / electric fan conversion- your's aint warming up properly, which will definately pull mpg down.

Electric fan helps with faster warm up, and mpg too- they dont need that huge viscous fan in the UK!

With regard to your rolling back, whats the tickover speed? If you feel it doesnt creep strongly enough at idle, jack it up to ~800rpm.

Tim.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome, this is much nicer than what I got from the skyline owners when I joined them.

I will after this warm welcome join as a full member to allow me to see all the site and all the useful information held within. once I have the anti roll bar links done I will look at saving up for the electric fan conversion and the other stuff suggested.

Again thank you for your kind welcome.

Hi R3m , and welcome to the club. I am running a 1995 Jap import Mistral, which is automatic.
my tick-over is 800rpm, and no "roll-back" problems. I am getting about 28mpg , so the first thing to do is change filters, and think of investing in a set of AVM manual locking hubs . When was your truck serviced last ? Every now and then I run her with Diesel fuel system cleaner in the tank, this keeps injectors etc. clean...... Have fun !!
