A kid from round the Block came to play today!

We have a "ferret proof" garden, and can open a cat flap and let the guys come and go. First thing in the morning, they like to go out and roll in the damp/wet grass, and clean their coats.

This morning, I let them out whereby Topic, closely followed by Peanut were out like a shot, bundling across the grass.

A few mins later Suz was shouting at me to get out into the garden.

This is the security video of what actually happened between me letting them out, and me opening the back door. Peanut had the brains to hide in a tube that runs in front of the green house... Topic on the other hand......

The ferrets and the Magpies play together a lot. It's funny to watch, as they will run up and tweak the ferrets tail if the ferrets ignore them. They then flutter and run round the garden until a ferret gets too close, where they will hop/flap up onto the fence, or bird bath.

The fox is another thing altogether.. I can only assume the fox was not hungry, and was very curious. You can't see it in that camera view, but on one of the other cameras, we could see the fox had sat on the wall right by the green house, and watched them for a while before jumping down. I always thought the ferrets would have the sense to hide in one of the pipes if the fox came in... Topic and sense are obviously not two words you can use in the same sentence.

You and me both...

We used to have an ultrasonic fox deterrent, but it was forever running the batteries flat, so really not sure how good they are. The ferrets never batted an eyelid at it.

I think that is brilliant, a ferret I recon will see of a fox most times unless the fox is desperate, we have foxes come visit every night cos the Mrs feeds them and the Badgers, it is a regular action point for the dogs first the Badgers then a while later the foxes both times the dogs race out barking up to the fence where they all yap at each other, after a couple of minutes they come back in tails wagging, great fun, Rick

They are fearless little things, but my biggest concern is the fact that they are long and thin. It would be easy for a fox to snap at them and break their back.

When we were in the New Forrest a couple of years ago, one of the ponies came over and sniffed one of our guys. The ferret was attached to the ponies nose in an instant.

Fascinating as you say the fox if hungry enough might strike first & quickly.

Wonder if the Ferret smelt some fear in the Fox so was more laid back.

If only they wern't so corruptable, they would make fearless gard dogs. Lol. Perhaps more suited to being a burglars assistant.
