Hi guys,

Just paid up for another year. Was contemplating selling my terrano at the beginning of the summer, but every time I drive it I just cant. Tows the best out off all the vehicles I've used aswell. MOT due soon, fingers crossed.

Also picked up this Xtrail for £200 at the end of July. MOT until Feb. Really nice car. And I have to say it goes of road really well.
Drove it up to the adventure overland show at the weekend and it's just a nice drive. I love my Terry but it is abit of a tractor.

Ground clearance is an issue though. I had to turn around on one lane.

Another angle. It was really wet and on standard road tires. I thought I might have to get a few of the landys about to give me a tow but it ate it up.

Another one in the Terry late June.
I had to get out and have a look and was quite disapointed. Inside it felt like I was about to tip over

Hi Rick, Both those where in wales. Treecastle I think.

No decent ones around us that I know off.

The lanes and the motors look great.

Just have a look under the boot carpet in the xtrail and check there is no rust stained water dribbles been running down from behind the side trims. They are prone to rotting the strut top mountings out and that’s a sign. Whilst it is still a few drops of water they can be fixed easy enough but by the time the inner side trims have burst open the trucks a write off.

Love the Terrano to bits mate, it's nice to see a modified Mk1!!!

And I love the Xtrail, only for the fact that you paid £200 for it :lol :bow

GregT

Cheers Jim. Will check that.

Thanks Banshee, call me biased but I do prefer the look of the old square headlights.

£200 is not bad it's got a good history, not my best though. £50 Punto a couple of years ago, didn't cost me anything to get it through the MOT so £90 with a years ticket. Drove it for 2 months then sold it for £500 :D
Though I spent that on an l200 that didn't need much... drove if of the trailer and the engine seized... It's all fun and games

I looked at the X trail a few years back but lack of low box put me off.
As a light laner/tow motor they are supposed to be pretty good.

Just got my Terry through it's MOT!

Only needed a new brake pipe to the load sensor and i welded up the rad support before it went in. NO advisories! :D

Was planning on suspension lift as I don't fancy cutting my bumper and raising it.

Decision has been made abit more complected as my near side rear shock has snapped, seems a shame to get a new one only to get a lift kit in a few months. Been around the local scrappy's and no luck. oh well. The xtrail has had to start towing stuff around and it doesn't do to bad a job. The trailers seem to rattle around more but it pulls fine.

Added some rock sliders..

Got some spring spacer on the way to. Cant afford a full kit yet. Soon

If I go any higher my dogs will need a ramp. My collie is ok but my spaniel needs a boost

Finally got a drawer system. Not what I had planned but it was free. Had to do a little trimming to make it open all the way.

That is excellent!!!!!! I'll be keeping my eyes open for one of those on eBay from now on.

How do you think it would fare with weight on top when empty?

GregT
26-02-2020, 11:30
Cheers guys. Does the job.

Banshee, pretty well. It is pretty heavy duty. This isnt completely empty and I did think I was pushing it but it still works fine.

^^ T-Doug. It's not bad when it's all bolted down. Lifting it in there own my own was a pain.

Been really busy lately and putting my Terry to work. Shavings for the horses. And I figure if we run out of bogg roll we can just sh** in the stables.

And only one pic but delivered 8 Ride on mowers since yesterday.

GregT

Bugger... Lost all drive...

I was towing the trailer.. lost all drive. Had to deliver the ride on mower that was on the trailer wich meant driving fair distance on the main road.. luckily it was quiet.

Wait for my mum to come in the xtrail. Unhitch trailer, tow Terry forward. Hitch trailer to xtrail, roll Terry back. Line up trailer then winch my self on... bloody typical.

Poor xtrail was not meant for such abuse.

Anyway any ideas on loss of drive? No indication anything was Amiss until it failed.

Gotta be clutch mate surely?

I guess so, though had not indication, no juddering or anything pulling away. Had some heavy loads on lately as well.

Luckily I live right next door to a garage and they aren't exactly busy at the moment. Would have a crack myself but just to busy at the moment.

Just watch out for a runout lip on your flywheel, everyone warned me that because the overall diameter of the 3.0 clutch is larger than that of the 2.7, depending on how worn the surface of the flywheel is on the back of the engine, you may end up with a lip, this by all accounts has to be resolved if the case before the 3.0 clutch could be fitted, luckily mine was good

No sweat.

None on ebay at the minute but I've got paperwork for mine if you want to use the same guys I did.

The entire strip down and rebuild has been documented and pictured twice now in my project thread if your guys get stuck or you are curious :thumb2

You've checked the obvious I suppose. Tried all gears in hi and low range and that the 4wd stick wasn't in neutral :hide:

Your terry looks great.
I woke up one morning to be greeted by a lopsided and cracked front bumper where some one had hit my terry whilst parked and driven off. And have since contemplated fitting an aftermarket winchbumper but Worry about how it would effect my insurance and if I was in an accident of hurting a pedestrian. In the 27 of driving I have never run anyone over although as a 14 year old was run over.

Did modifying your car put your insurance up much?
