No way to speak about your ancestors....
1941 was a very good year for our hobby.

I have to keep reminding the LR guys at our 4x4response group that I am now driving the origin of the species... They hate it.. :lol:lol
Only thing I can think that would wind them up even more would be to get an Austin Champ... the true Land Rover...

For landrover yes, they built the first prototype with a centre steering wheel on jeep axles after a bit of sand drawing in red wharf bay.

Must have included a lot of actual sand in the manufacturing process which is probably the reason they all rot so fast :lol

I guess it's a bit "Animal Farm" 4 cylinders bad (ok) 6 cylinders good (even better).
There was a V8 Diesel engined version of the ML in the UK market from memory it was a ML420 4.0 Litre turbo diesel but could be wrong.
I drove a new one from Leicester to Derby and was blown away by the torque that was in 2008.
Just been sat in stand still traffic for about 20 mins on the M40 on the way home from work.
Lane 3 was closed southbound.
Bloody Grand Cherokee broken down in outside lane [emoji38]

All this jeep banter got me thinking the other day so when I had 5 mins I did a bit of research into the history of 4wd vehicles.
I was smugly pleased to learn that, yep you guessed it the Japanese invented and produced the first 4wd car.
It was called the Kurogane Type 95.
It was the world's first four-wheel drive passenger vehicle placed into mass production before the Willys MB (Jeep), which was introduced in 1941, the Daimler Dingo in 1940, the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen introduced in 1942, and the GAZ-61 in 1938. Its nickname is the "Yonki" which in Japanese means "all-wheel drive" In the field, soldiers often called it the "daruma".
So all you jeep boys who think you are driving the very origin of the 4x4 think again.Old jap beat you to it:clap:clap
