These came today all ten of them, been looking for them for a long time, these are just how I remember them, now got to source a bit of heavy tube about 4 inch in diameter weld a loop on each end and drill ten holes, hope to test it Sunday at new P & P site near Slindon, supposed to be opening for first time, called Slindon Valley, Rick

If they can get a challenger tank out of the s**t I'm sure they will get you free.
Only thing they don't supply is the muscle to knock them in and pull them back out again.

Knocking em in will be easy, I usually have muscle available, and getting em out will be a winch job once I get close to em:clap, Rick

My father-in-law has one of these sets.
It’s old, but the rods look the same.
He has a piece of 3”x3” angle iron about 3ft long with a ring on one end.
It has holes along it alternately on each side with the iron laying on the ground with the rods driven in on the angle each side if this makes sense, with the ring on the end ready to take the Winch hook.
He’s a farmer.

The flaw with using angle is that the only the top of the rod is being pulled making it liable to achieve an angle and then be pulled out easier, with a good sized bit of tube with two holes per rod the rods will tend to be held straight, Rick

Just got it today, freeby as it was lounging in the skip, still in the motor so take pic tomorrow but it is around 100 mm box about 6 mm thick 1.2 Mt long, quite heavy, just got to find something to make the loop out of and drill some holes, Rick

Once it is finished I will post a pic of it with all the pins in as it would be in the ground, Rick
A company called flatdog make the type of anchor you are building Rick.

Ground anchor in the making, finish it of tomorrow, Rick
solarman216
23-03-2019, 20:37
Started the long task of drilling holes
solarman216
23-03-2019, 20:40
Turned the shank down so it will fit my chuck this was the largest I could get locally 25/32
solarman216
23-03-2019, 20:42
But they did have this reamer which is perfect size
solarman216
23-03-2019, 20:48
3 holes done, did drill the others to full size they just need reaming to get the angle but all 4 batteries are now needing charge, it is a 36v DeWalt handled it easy, decided to put two pins in the center line straight down but like the others with a small backward angle, from this pic you get the idea
solarman216
23-03-2019, 20:51
Side view, hopefully you can see the the small back angle, all loaded on the motor ready for tomorrow, if I need it I can finish it on site, Rick
Brilliant stuff Rick.:thumb2
I bet your dying to get stuck to try it out:lol
looks like a medieval torcher device

Well as the site proved uninteresting, I decided to take advantage of the lovely day and a quiet spot to deploy my home made anchor, drove in the 4 pins that I had holes for
solarman216

Winch attached
solarman216
24-03-2019, 21:31
Winch done, with 4 wheels locked, pulled the motor about 4 ft, anchor moved but was still holding, and with only 4 pins out of the 10, so quite impressed
solarman216
24-03-2019, 21:37
Skid to prove, all 4 wheels the same, so yes I am happy, also getting the pins out proved easy with a bit of ingenuity, and for next time a small bottle jack will make it a dream, well happy, John Morgan (organizer)watched and asked if I will be trying it in the outback (Slindon) I said you bet, Rick

Thats a great result

26-03-2019, 20:15
Here it is almost finished, just needs shortening a little so I can fit it in the rear draw slider, a handle welded on the side to make it easier to pick up and a coat of paint

What was the ground like where you tested it?, did the spikes go in easily?

Fairly hard, 8 to 10 hits each spike and stopped about 6 inches short as did not know how hard they would be to remove, would have been another 2 to 3 hits to drive them home, Rick

To be fair and honest the pic you see after winching was the second I took as, soon as I saw it moving I put them in to the max, Rick

I think 8-10 hits is good, what size hammer did you use?
