Hi all I’m new to 4x4s so thought I would get on here and show my project and hopefully there is plenty of knowledge here that can help me out. I’ve just got a 2005 terrano and it has a small rust issue that I’m planning on fixing.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190128/7451d3a26d27d383e45c3506a4551b41.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190128/7cf49a5ca6ccb4c62bb06e22eb167697.jpg
Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and managed to find replacement panels or just made their own

I paid nothing for it had a friend owe me so I got this got a friend with a garage we’re going to rip all the back out and get welding and plate it up I’m going to use it for getting away on long weekends stick a bed in the back if I don’t want to wild camp in Scotland

29-01-2019, 00:45
Welcome aboard and I’ve been there done that and bought the tee shirt, as said doable.
I cut out the rot to good metal and simply made plates and welded in. Elty on here has a project thread with photos of how he fabricated a complete boot floor amd wheel arches.
Whilst you are in that area on that year of truck check the rear spring top mounting on the chassis, they rot but can be fabricated. Probably easier to do by cutting boot floor and replacing from above.
This is what you want a read of!!! Get a cuppa and a new pair of pants though

Oh it’s been fun that’s for sure.
Apart from this in the rear it has a small hole in the wheel arch at the front and everything else is solid should get a good few more years out of it from all this.

I think that was another Nissan cost cutting exercise, as my 1999 one has the ability to open the door from the inside, and also to lock the door from the inside as well, where as Suz's 2001 doesn't have it.
I have never looked, but maybe the lever is still on the lock to do it.

It’s do able and I bought all the bits just not had chance to do it yet. The tailgates are indentical in the late and early models or at least only minor differences. The earlier trucks have the interior handle but the inner trim is shaped around the window where the later models aren’t shaped. The latch mechanism is different but is interchangeable. Basically fit the earlier latch and you’ll have the extra push rod which releases it. I was thinking about a push button and a solenoid to open the tailgate from inside so that the interior panel wouldn’t need butchering.
Rarche2002
17-02-2019, 10:03

Roofrackwise, I got mine from SDV in Clitheroe, I don't have existing bars either, so had to decide between rivnuts or not inviting water into the cabin.

I already had the roof bars and SDV built of there without puncturing the roof. I can easily swap it over to another vehicle if needed.
Snorkel, I'd go for a long one that enters the wing close to the headlamp.
I'm tempted by a diesel heater too, just to take the edge off when entering and exiting the sleeping bag.
My 2nd battery is inside the truck and no problem.
It's all looking good so far.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4587/38211542635_129a4c2b0b_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21dC9mB)2017-12-16_06-40-09 (https://flic.kr/p/21dC9mB) by Simon Carter (https://www.flickr.com/photos/96036923@N05/), en Flickr
It's all looking good so far.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190227/ee980779fa444dc5a701853988f2aeef.jpg
Like this one?
How does the roof rack attach to these because the rain gutter is under the door frame not on the top like normal
Yea I can get the heaters cheap off my friend so will prob just stick one in
What have you got the battery powering? And what size is it etc so I can see if I need it or just make my mind up on what to do

Yes, that's the snorkel. The reason is that under the wing is a strengthening arm which severely restricts any ducting between snorkel and airbox access as per Banshee's photo here.
http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showpost.php?p=271551&postcount=22
The roofrack sits on the roof bars and rubber feet at the rear. Have a nose through this album.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/96036923@N05/albums/72157648665980018/with/37402712370/
The battery mainly powers the fridge, phone charging and LEDs. It's only 85-95 Ah I think, nothing spectacular, I do have solar back up for longer stationary periods, otherwise it's charged from a split charger and works fine. I've had weekends of fridge cooling from the battery alone, so obviously moving around isn't a problem as it charges as soon as you fire up the motor.
EDIT: What's going on with the site Banshee?

Ahh I see I’m thinking of making my own so could do with seeing the feet as they attach to the truck if you know what I mean.
The snorkel helps loads I will be ordering that today I think [emoji848]
Do you think if I just got a bigger battery for the engine bay it will last powering a fridge for a weekend?

You'll have to get a close up of one of the album photos to see the feet.
I wouldn't risk using the starter battery for running a fridge, just in case. I used a jump start battery https://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/battery-chargers-jump-starters/phaze-4-in-1-jump-starter?request_type=bestseller for a while (not that one) which worked fine and kept the starter battery for starting.

Well I lied [emoji1781] turns out the Audi needed new pads so cracked on with that first https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/46dc0514ec25dace6122c3496f5439b5.jpg
I think I could of got a few more miles [emoji848]
Then I found a bargain of a leisure battery at Halfords £114 with discount bargain!! So I bought it good for running TVs etc so then I thought where to put it.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/e562ae2ab7b30b5323365076b9cf3004.jpg
So I started moving things https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/ab1727ffcd74a816d21dfa117df26758.jpg
And more things https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/859ad27471a44aa7fd42b577fe86cdf5.jpg
Then I thought a bit more.
I need a snorkel but I don’t know how it all works in the engine bay so thought it may get in the way there and also it would mean making new leads etc which I can’t be arsed doing if I’m honest so back out it came. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/0d9a5283034c4b8671b5abee7b90c059.jpg

I’ve made a temporary metal cradle for it and placed it in there I just need a bit of hose for the power steering reservoir for it to have a new home and it’s going to be very easy to make a split charge system for it and I’m going to make it so there is just a switch that turns the starter battery off and then the leisure battery will power all of the interior electrics.
And then there was this too https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190301/6deb887bb25458134977ada489219ecc.jpg think it may be quite dead [emoji88] lol well it will get replaced with the snorkel kit so bonus don’t have to take it out twice.

Well I must admit the arches both sides are very rusted like the rest of it I will be chopping them out and welding new ones in this summer after our 2 week camping trip I think and when I do that a lot of stuff will be moved around in the engine bay as I don’t like how tight some of the cables are.
Also I don’t like how big the washer bottle is so I will probably buy a slim one.
And you can’t see it but I’ve actually wired in a charger with a quick connector at the front so I can put the leisure battery on a maintenance charge when we get home or to electric hookup sites.

Do not know neither of them specify if LWB or SWB, Rick
Before you go buying a new exhaust just check the exhaust to gearbox mount.
They have a habit of breaking and cause loads of rattling.
Its a U clamp onto a metal bracket with rubber mounts to the gearbox.
If you look under the motor level with the front passenger door you will see it.

Have a read of this thread you might find it is hard work, and not worth the effort. I still ended up having to take the front section off to weld it, as the clamps fowled the cross member. It's only £10 more for the complete front section.

I brought one of those for my Maverick but it was more the A-Bar style than the full wrap around. I used to have a nightmare with mine with the brackets rusting away and would constantly need welding back together and also used to cost me valuable ground clearance when I was on 31's on the Maverick

Well it got fabricated today just made new mounting brackets with flatbar and a big hammer [emoji23] https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190428/54f13d6a3a62f3f295d9526574e7180c.jpg
Also sorted the exhaust flexi out welded one side and clamped the other https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190428/33e8de9ce5fb9e8dd1e9c28ede309dee.jpg as I didn’t want to tackle the bolts that go to the turbo as they look pretty damn crusty

Yea I’ve done a fair bit now just need to get last couple bits sorted then strip the engine bay ready for welding new front arches in I think I will possibly make my own front bumper at that point too but that’s next year most likely I wanna get some use out of it now.

That awning looks a really useful piece of kit, especially as it can be opened by just one person. Pefect for lunch stops or camping inside the truck/cooking out of the rear.
I can't wait to see this truck in the flesh.

I engine runs sound just had new belts and rad this year I genuinely don’t want a lot for the bits on her I would rather people use bits to keep there terranos going so just make me offers if you can come collect that would be great as I don’t really have the time to remove and post as I’m at work a lot lately it’s got 5 alloys if anyone wants them 4 off road tyres still a bit of life left in them and just a normal tyre on the spare I can get pictures of tread depth etc if anyone is interested I’m located near Preston. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191117/c6157c5e45f84863eba0653ed1146d37.jpg
I will be keeping the rack and awning as I’m planning on getting a land cruiser possibly 80series if I can find a relatively clean one.

Have you got any photos of the corrosion that they have marked in yellow?
Chances are it’ll be places we have seen before on here and easily repaired but often a garage will quote several arms and legs because they don’t want to do the work. You have done such a lot of work it seems such a waste to let it go now.
All the other repairs look pretty simple and standard.

No not managed to get under and have a look I never pay for garage work fortunately as he’s a good friend and I usually just smoke some brisket and he helps me do the tricky stuff with the cars [emoji23].
I would get under today but it’s peeing down [emoji43] he said something about there being a crack across the front crossmember?? Does that sound right [emoji848] but if I’m honest the truck as a whole still drives fine [emoji23][emoji1787] but I just haven’t got the time to sort it especially not this side of Christmas and as we love to get away in the winter to camp in Scotland I’m in need of a quicker solution which would be to buy another 4x4 swap all the rack and awning over and get out and about when we can.

My brother has been looking for one:thumb2I had it up for 6995 with all the extras on it which have now been taken off with the exception of the roof rack and roof tent. The tent will come off and it's going for a new mot tomorrow. With all the work that's been done over the last 18 months I would have thought 5k would be a good price

Hang on! What's going on here? I don't recall a RTT, do I? What did you get? And what's up with the Patrol?
And for Rarche2002, I'm in a similar position, I've got an expensive welding bill to look forward to and considered/am considering scrapping the Terrano and getting a Patrol (or something else newer).
If I can get the pieces I need, I think it'll be worth spending on the Terrano, I'll never get my money back, but you never will with a car, unless it's an F40... I should have a good base for a car that will last for years to come.
If you are stripping, let me know hoe the inner wings look. :p

I wish I had room on my drive as I’d buy it to fix up. I don’t think mot fail sheet is that bad and looking at boot repairs you did it shouldn’t be a bad motor.
