Here's one I might have asked uncle Rustic but here goes. I'm trying get the engine hours display to work, or find a way if reading them.
Twin Volvo Penta 3 pot diesels. Twin controls and twin hour readout, both not reading out ???
I don't know where the signal would come from bug suspicious as both are out/ failed.
It's a bit like a car with no odometer reading.

All connections clean and present as far as I can see .
Any top tips guys 🤔

No idea but firstly would be checking for power to the display unit. As you are aware LED displays can fade quickly with time. I am guessing the clock will only be live when the engine is running or if there is such a thing when the ignition is ON.
Loads of various model displays on the net.
Most LED's seem to pack up when 20 years old or more if applicable.

Hour clocks on tractors & plant operate off the wire on the alternator (usually marked ind ) which goes to the warning light on the dash. So only able to clock hours when engine is running.

That's kinda what I got from Google. It seems the original alternators have been replaced at some time. Maybe these new ones don't have the same take off point for hour log ?

Not all alternators need an exciter to start them charging so you may be right but if it still has the warning light wired in & working you should be able to use that.
