Does anyone know how you can find / trace the owner of a mobile phone number?
Reasonably legally of course!

type it into google is a first start, if it is a company scam number it often shows up, but if a private number will not show unless they are advertising on an open site, Rick

Tried to Google it but no joy the number I have belongs to the bloke whose firework burnt our house down it is I believe a privately owned number.

I only have his first name and mobile number, he refuses to tell me his full name or his address. The Police interviewed him on tape but as they found no evidence that a criminal offence was committed they have refused to provide me with the information they hold.

I have tried a formal FOI request but they are using the Data Protection Act as the reason they will not provide me with the information I want even though they are aware that I want it to pursue a Civil Recovery.

I am hoping my insurers might consider a legal case for them to make an abbrogated claim or Civil Recovery but TBH I think they will not bother.

What a shit system we have in this country that protects the bad guys, I guess it is to do with the EU shit human rights act, which gives bombers and peodifiles more rights than the victims, Rick

Try this, should give you a full name. I have used it before myself.

Tried your link it just comes up with his first name only, interesting though as it was right. All I have at present is a first name and mobile number,

Checked my phone number and nothing!

Careful putting numbers and names into that site. It’s free so what are they getting out of it? Perhaps a nice little database of numbers and names to sell on to spammers time and time again. Sorry to be negative guys.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal, I value my privacy and they have details that I'd rather they didn't.

Try pipl.com it will lead to alot of social media links or if they have used the phone number on alot of sites. Then you can look to see if any hits are in your locality.

Evening,
Now we are entering a whole new level here and depends on actually how keen you are for info, but are there not apps/services that will allow you to track a phone by using it's phone number?

There is a US firm who will give you the location of a mobile phone to within 12 feet or so based on triangulation. I guess you have to be sure the phone is at it's owners home.

I think tracking apps have to be installed on the phone in question first. e.g. by a suspicious partner!

We were out with KSAR searching for a distressed guy a few moths back, who was basically threatening to committing suicide and was videoing himself injecting something into his arm, and then posting it on Youtube.

Even with that, the police still could not track his phone until they had got him to click a link in a message they sent to him. They did the Triangulation from the cell towers, but it is very hit and miss in this country, and so far, on all the searches we have done, not once has it actually given us any help in locating the person.

It must surely depend on the phone and how it is configured for instance if I have "maps" enabled then I surely can be pinpointed to within a few Mtrs, Rick

You can, but only if your phone is transmitting that data. It's getting the permission to make the phone transmit it, that's the hard thing.

We use a Map program called View Range, and it has a "Buddy" system, so people you add as buddies, can then see where you are on the map. We use it for safety, but it's easy to turn off if you do not want to be found.
