No Zac, once I started to take it to bits discovered that all the bolts were "whitworth" so how old is that? whitworth and BSF came before UNF and UNC and we have been metric for years, no wonder when owner put it on Ebay for 0.99p it attracted no bids, but I now have lots of SS with some nice folds which I am sure will come in handy later, plus loads of SS scrap which at £450 a tonne is good,Rick

Not mine, it belongs to Dave who rents a part of the yard for scaffold storage, no pics today as did another trailer load with the two canopies that were still fitted and some more ducting and hard core, prior to that removed the walk in freezer and transported it to a shop two streets away, had intended to reassemble it today but they needed time to empty the chest and upright freezers to make space, so came back and did the canopies while the trailer was available, yet more to the SS scrap pile, Rick

More to come, MH cover filled, but have to hold my hand up and say I have goofed, I should have stopped the screed 2mm lower than the cover frame to allow for the covering, but all is not lost they can just cover straight over and knife over the frame/cover join

Yes one piece of 6mm ply well whetted first, think Dave used 4mm ply for back shelves, the flat sections of the bar will be tiled, the curved section will be zinc, same as bar top, Rick

6mm  bloody 'ell that is quite thick really, that's twice in one week I've been impressed now :lol
That curved section is quality workmanship!!!!!
Awesome transformation Rick :naughty
Looking forward to seeing final product. Some tasty craftsmanship there.

This turned out to be very interesting, not wanting the drips from the leaking roof on my new screed I pulled the ceiling down and fixed a temp off-cut of plasterboard to absorb the drips, but once exposed I stuck my hand in to see what sort of beam was in there as the box never looked straight, to my horror the box is empty, absolutely nothing to support the cavity wall above nor the ceiling/flat roof joists this side of the box, needless to say this will be ripped out and a beam inserted toot sweet next week, we have decided to renew the whole roof with a completely new structure approx 95 sq mtrs, more on that next week with pics of how it is now and you will see why we are going down this route
solarman216

Was the wood submerged for a period of time of sprayed or what Rick?
solarman216
29-09-2017, 23:07
Just laid it on the floor and brushed water over it both sides for a couple of hours, was a little impatient and should have given it another couple of hours and more water but time is at a premium here and if you look close there is the beginning of a crack about the middle, but as it is the backing for what I would call rough joined zinc it will not be a problem, Rick
terranosaurusdoug
29-09-2017, 23:33
Looking forward to seeing the zinc, I can't picture it in my head.

Steel in place, when Dave was cutting it he complained the metal cutting disk I supplied was not very good, I took no notice, but when we got it up on one side and needed to slide over to rest on the other wall it bound and we could not move it, so I decided to drill it and insert a pin in order to get a lever on it, blunted two cobalt drills straight away and never did drill it right through, so turns out it is high tensile steel

This is the type of differential pressure switch we use at the University on extract and AHU's. One 6mm tube either side of of the fan.

This is the type of differential pressure switch we use at the University on extract and AHU's. One 6mm tube either side of of the fan.
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/9069503/?grossPrice=Y&cm_mmc=UK-PLA-DS3A-_-google-_--_--_-&matchtype=&gclid=CjwKCAjwgvfOBRB7EiwAeP7ehlzM2tL6lH3CLYwD80Wf 2QntLvVyKhBsQMVYVXHvHfTVvwatR-6yyxoCL0UQAvD_BwE
The controller I have been supplied with is simply a diff pressure sensor that detects lower pressure in the canopy side of the fan together with a current draw to the fan, yet to get a gas control valve till I know what size pipe I will be using, Rick

12-10-2017, 21:54
Bought a 50 Mtr roll off pipe earlier in the week, unwrapped it today with the intention of running it through a narrow ceiling void, only to find it is 15 mm not 22, so that job was abandoned
Yeah blue for 15 and purple-ish for 22.

From wash area to kitchen, getting a bit tight for space now, lots done this week but not too much for good pics, 3 weeks left, just done a recy on what is left to do! lecy can cope, Dave and his lads as well (lots to do but there are 4 of them) Data/security guy has it easy, I can cope with gas, domestic plumbing, air con for beer cellar, ducting for canopy and full heating plus sorting other trades problems, the grey area is the tilers, at their current rate of progress they stand no chance, in total we have over 5 tonnes of ceramic tiles to lay/apply so far they have not even completed one WC, words next week, :doh :doh , all this week Rick

No pics today, just too much going on, just seen the WC basins and taps etc, cannot wait to be fitting those, started running gas pipe 42 mm from meter to ceiling void where it will be accessible, then drop down to 35 mm, if they add further gas appliances later then it will be easy to upgrade to 42 all the way but at this time have to look at cost, 42 pipe is not cheap, I was asked today about 1.5 inch black iron barrel, problem is it comes red oxide painted, no good at all, owner has found it on the net, need 100 x .900 mm pieces & 200 floor plates :eek: this is for the balustrade around the raised seating area, tillers recon they have up to ten guys available, with less than 3 weeks left they may need them, hope to have some progress pics tomorrow, Rick

So much going on now, I am finding it hard to do any work myself, especially in the ceiling space putting together 35mm gas pipe, it take so long to cool down and the joists are barely strong enough so have to keep very still til it has set, and just as I get a joint up to temp I hear "Rick" being called, I do not like to be rude but sometimes have to be, this is new 42 mm feed from meter replacing the existing 22 mm, how the kitchen and fish fryer worked without problems I am not sure but the pipe run was only 5 Mtrs

Gas in 42 to above ceiling then down to 35 for the 21 Mtr run to the kitchen, then drop to 28 wit 22 draw offs to each appliance if they add more appliances later then we have the option of upgrading without any shop disturbance, there is also 3 phase to the kitchen and these could go gas one day, at this stage it is all about planning ahead

Now this is interesting, one of the bed sit tenants commented today that they have no hot for 3 days, about the time I shut the gas, so started looking for a tee into our supply, as always assumed the bed sits had there own supply as they do water via a 50 mm main, well found a pretty decrepit 15 mm pipe that goes up 3 floors then across a 4 Mtr flat roof and it feeds 3 YES 3 combi boilers :doh :doh, so temp connected as tenants may be in till Xmas then we will be converting the whole lot

The last guy did the place up two years ago, I have lost count of the rubbish jobs I have uncovered, suffice to say all the existing plumbing has been removed, I have never seen/found so much botched stuff and leaks galore, we had intended to keep some of it notably the toilets, but not now it is all being renewed, heating wise only the boiler is remaining (with mods) the over pressure discharge was a hose pipe laid in the boxing, had it discharged, boiling water would have gone over the disable WC!!!!!! I will take a pic of that tomorrow, as for the electrics, you would not believe, so yes we have had a lot more to sort than first expected, Rick
solarman216
20-10-2017, 21:49
All that you can see of my gas outlet work to the appliances, I went out for my camera and upon returning all had been pushed back to the wall as I had given the OK as done, the boys can move quick when you do not want them to but not so quick when you do :doh
solarman216
20-10-2017, 21:51
The other end, some appliances have no labels but as a guesstimate well over 100 Kw of power, just the two deep fat fryers are over 44 Kw

Rad on wall, it is very heavy and the bricks very hard and brittle, so had problems getting a good fixing, SDS was no good as it just broke the bricks up and fixings would not hold, so used my old method of sharpening TC bit to a sharp edge (like a metal twist bit) and using an ordinary hammer drill, much more time consuming but got clean bored holes that held

Last for today, lecy just put up this chandelier, will be working tomorrow as cannot afford to get behind, time is getting short now, Rick

21-10-2017, 20:40
Did a couple of hours today in order to avoid problems on Monday morning as I am not an early starter, plumbed up this unit on wheels, they need to be able to move it in order to get access to the adjacent fryers for the weekly cleaning, so hot/cold and waste all on flexy pipes, plus electrics on Monday to supply the centre of kitchen fridges and freezers

The unit in its normal position, if it was fixed they would not have good access to the fryers, 2 tilers in today, but could not see what they had done! as opposed to the guy that did work in pic on post 187, that was his work in a day on his own, more Monday, Rick
solarman216
23-10-2017, 20:40
No pics today, forgot me camera, lots going on though, I managed a lot of plumbing although most of it hidden, two weeks to go, it is going to be hard work to pull it all together by the 5th, but will give it a go, but sometimes things are out of my control like the tilers, they need to be done by the end of the week, but and it is at the moment a big but, Rick

I like the totally "Random" way this is tiled... I can't do random, as I am too much of a perfectionist. I tried tiling a bathroom once with 3 different patterned tiles, and even though I thought I was being totally random with picking the tiles, when I stepped back and looked, they were still in a pattern, except one, and some how that really really annoyed me... Only I was not sure if it was the odd tile, or the fact I had failed at doing something I set my mind too....

'Random'...... is not an easy thing to achieve......when doing 1x1mtr surveys on habitat we would throw the quadrat over our shoulders.......we were told this was not actually random....that there was an element of structure to it......:nenau
Serious surveyors get a random number generator to produce numbers, that correlate with a grid of the whole area to be surveyed.......:doh
This is then classed as 'random'......seriously....?

:doh I wonder how random the number generator actually is?
Going back to the very old days of the first IBM Pc's, I worked at the university of Kent, and that era of computer, there was a software function to generate a random number, but it was in fact picked from a look up list, and if you set all the computers in the lab to run a program that assigned a random numbers to a colour and then display that colour for 10 seconds, and set all the computers running in the lab at the same time, they would all display the same colours. After a while they would get out of sync, but that was because some would run faster than others, even though they were all supposed to be identical. (what? we had a lot of time on our hands...:augie ):doh

Bar floor covering removed as contractors did not glue it all over and it tore when moving sink units, bar plumbing going in would have been completed today but somebody "lost" a 3Mt length of 2 inch pipe, we use 2 inch as at the top end is the coffee machine and we have had experiences of these in the past, one week to go, but opening has it seems been put back, not because we will not be done, we will, but due to "it" problems with the tills and associated equipment, I guess he is going high tech, and the staff need time to test it all out including the cooking side of things before they open, more tomorrow, Rick

It has taken me at least 6 attempts at fixing my gates this last week and though I am not 100% certain the dodgy cable joint looks like the culprit now.
That said I am fully retired now so the length of time does not really matter and the full greasing of the mechanism and the added water drain is bound to help in the long term.
Will be great to see the final pictures when you have finished the job.

Overall view, does not look bad, the only reason I put the duct in the roof from the hood was to lessen the visual impact on the neighbours, and am pleased with the result, you can imagine how another 4.5 Mtrs of duct would have looked across that nice flat roof, next week is the last week when it should all come together, only got 4 WC' to fit, fin CH,8 plastic sheets to rear store wall, beer room chiller to install, boxing round pipes, fin bar area, etc, etc plus all the other trades to sort, more Monday, Rick

Yes she is fine today, took the "Buster collar" off within half an hour of being home, she tried washing the wound about three times, each time I scolded her gently then immediately praised her up, she has not tried to wash it since and had a small meal this evening of raw sheep's heart, her favorite.
As for the job, lots gone on today but only took one pic before the batteries died.
