As you all may already be aware we are losing all of the embedded pictures found within forum post from users that have their pictures hosted with Photobucket.

Photobucket are slowly dragging their net over all users that use embed codes to post their pictures into forum posts, eBay adverts, blogs etc. Photobucket are now demanding $399 a year subscription to return the privilege to you.

https://www.buzzfeed.com/katienotopoulos/photobucket-just-killed-a-chunk-of-internet-history?utm_term=.eneKlPOr0#.sydE87DV3

Whilst an in house solution would be nice for pictures etc, it also brings with it financial and legal burdens that we don't want to be accountable for.

Moving forward......

For the time being, I have asked that Paul increases all users permissions so that you can edit your own forum posts, this will then allow you to re-host your pictures elsewhere and then swap the links restoring the image back into forum posts.

I myself have moved to imgBB, I find no problem with them but it's not to say that these guys wont end up doing the same as Photobucket in 6 months time :doh

This still leaves the issue of members old that have since left the forum but have contributed pics in the past in great write up's. If anyone finds any broken posts, can you please post the link to the thread in this thread and I'll try and scavenge as many photos as I can and re host them.

Can I ask that current members have a go at fixing their own links as I'm going to be busy enough fixing my own to start with :doh

Then I'll progress onto members posts that are no longer with us :thumb2

One word of advice though, imgBB doesn't dynamically downsize images on the fly like Photobucket used to, so you're going to need an intermediary app or piece of software to do this for you, alternatively switch the resolution down on the camera you take the images with, otherwise, forum images will be humongous

I'm sure I found a drop down menu, on imgbb, that let you change the photo size. :nenau
I only done it for the first photo though and it seems to have remembered it.

Why the dislike of Flickr?
Easy hosting.
Easy sizing for posting.
Free.
Paid option, so unlikely to shaft you as photbucket have. :nenau

Here Zac. I uploaded then changed the value to 800 in the left box. Then submit and upload.
Play with it till you find a size you like.

I've been trying to download everyone else's Albums too but having problems with the app that I've purchased so I've gone back to the developer.

If anyone has their albums set to private can they open them up for me and make them public so I can download and re-host

Thank you please :thumb2

Think mine are all public but if not I'll have to reset password. I'll try and check tonight.

I left photobucket some time ago, I have been using: https://postimages.org/

seems to work ok, just create a free account & upload all you like with options to resize pics, copy & paste links as PB :thumb2

The hardcore amongst you may have noticed that I've been systematically searching for threads to include anything with "banshee2400" in which is the username for my Photobucket account and also the only thing unique that was always present in an [IMG] link.

I'm nearly there and then I'll be starting the repair and re hosting of everyone else's pictures, problem I've been having is I've found that a few ex members who have now moved on have their Photobucket albums set to private rendering my app useless for downloading their entire albums in one hit, to do it manually would not be timely or viable in my opinion.

It seems that people are going in their own directions when it comes to hosts for their images, I'm using imgBB at the moment which seems great but the only downside is you have to either bring down the quality of your pics or resize them yourself or end up with massive images that distort the view on the forum. Optimal size for images within a thread seem to be 1024 x 576 :thumb2

I seem to have gotten the hang of ImgBB quickly, I think I will stick with it :thumb2

Created myself a imgBB account.

Will be trying to sort out my photos and links over the next few days.

Banshee would you mind keeping an eye on your PM's just in case I need a hand please. Cheers.

Right, got really fed up with Photobucket and deleted all my photos because it just wouldn't download my photos. Got them all on my laptop so it just means a bit of guess work putting my project back together again.
