Picked up this bad boy about 4 weeks ago. Ex police FSH and minor surface rust on chassis and couple of spots on coach work. Booked in for full under seal next week.
Took a gamble and hopped on a train to Brentwood (4 hours) to get it but I've been further in pursuit of a good one.
Running original ford maverick alloy wheels which i had powder coated with Maxxis Bighorns. They came off my 1st maverick (2.4 petrol 180,000 miles before death) and then on to my next which was a diesel and now on my Terrano.

Interested in running wheel spacers to improve the look but have read mixed reviews about them re excess wear on bearings.

Usual stuff with worn clevis pin on clutch pedal but easy fix with 10mm copper pipe cut and slid over pin, plenty of grease. I think the holes had worn to the right size for pipe (handy!) but will do proper repair later.
Didnt come with roof rails but got a set from Nis spec 1st for £70ish not too bad to fit apart from rear mounts which took a bit of persuading to get in.
Any advice or ideas welcome though not looking to do serious off roading as it is also my work truck.
Cheers

Couldnt see anything on the paperwork but seems to pull way better in 3rd and 4th then takes off in 5th compared to my last one.
Also rear drum brakes look way bigger than my last plus have full restraint for middle rear passenger mounted in the roof.
Nice little bonus' from plod, thanks! although there are a few extra holes and clips in the interior trim.

Paid £1800 for it, checked previous mot's online for rust issues and none ever mentioned.
Just needed new glow plugs to sort white smoke on start up then full fluids and filters change plus ancillary belts. Bargain!!!

Welcome aboard, you've bought well and joined the right forum. Sounds like you know your way around a truck too. Some great how to guides in the downloads section.

Looks great, black and white contrast really well. Imo wheel spacers are ok, I will be getting some for mine, loads of people run different offset wheels with no probs, wheel spacers only do the same thing. Welcome aboard mate, just watch out for barrbeast, he's really gay :D:thumb2

Welcome, I think it looks great in white, must be quire rare.

I would however really really really really really recommend not getting spacers, just get a few extra quid together if possible and get some nice negative offset black steel wheels and it would transform the look, only about £50 each :nenau

Hi and welcome. Looks like a lovely truck:thumb2
You could buy a set of negative offset wheels for a little less than a set of well made spacers.:thumbs

Thanks for the great replies! Anyone got spacers for sale or where would be best to get them from and how much to space by?

Another vote here AGAINST spacers, I've heard a couple of horror stories about them myself, I decided to just get some negative offset rims from Charles at JCS in Derby, worked out about £45 quid a wheel I think, these are 10J -32

I like your centre console... It's like a Storm Troopers armour! :naughty

Thanks, I love it. Going to put double pod on top of dash in line with console and add oil pressure gauge to existing boost gauge again coded white.
All I'll need then is some underbody neon and wheel spinners! Not!

So what's the problem with spacers, I know its only cosmetic but was looking at the bolt on 30mm ones just to push them out a little not beyond the arches.
I'm intrigued by the horror stories? Anyone got one?

I think the key is not to buy the cheapest ones you can find! :thumbs

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

To be honest if you get good quality ones you should be fine. I know what I said earlier as I thought it would be easier and probably cheaper with the wheels but good quality spacers should be ok. I've had them before and had zero issues.

Lobo

Thanks Jay and Mr K, appreciated. How can you tell if they are good quality or not? Seen a few on e bert for around £75 a pair any tips on what to look out for?

While I am not a fan of spacers that picture looks like they were running massive offset rims + spacer.

The main problem with running standard offset rims with a spacer you can't check that the nuts on the spacer are tight when the rim is on.

Steel rims with a choice of offsets are cheap enough, Is saving 100-150 quid on something that could kill / harm yourself, Your family or others worth it?

Lobo

Good point Fez, I'm going to put the money towards offset rims. Not worth the risk!

Lobo

I'm running my original maverick alloys at the moment and want to push them out 30mm so they run flush with the arches.
I don't know what they are offset at as standard so on a steely what offset should I be looking for to achieve this.
Tyres are maxis bighorn 235/75 r16 and will do rims and tyres at the same time, wouldn't mind a slightly wider tyres too but am not intending to lift it for a while so want something that isn't going to require body /flap mods ideally.
Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, the Mav's alloys will be a Positive 25mm off set.

So, if you look for wheels with no off set at all you will be almost there... Neg 5mm would get you your 30mm, but I don't think they will do an off set that small? :nenau

Thanks for that J-Tac. I can live with 0mm offset, I shall be looking at new shoes and rims in the new year.
Just done the valve clearances using the manual I downloaded here and using Solarmans advice on backing off quarter turn instead of feeler blades. Also removed small filter from banjo bolt on fuel pump. Runs lovely now, best £10 I've spent in a while on membership, half the price of a Haynes manual!

Many thanks to everyone

Having resolved (fingers crossed) my injector issues I am now onto the next stage of the interior revamp.
Having already got a boost gauge fitted in its own pod I have been bought an oil pressure gauge and double pod so am going to spray pod white and mount it centrally above centre console (excited) so will post pic as soon as fitted.
If anyone has fitted an oil pressure sensor can you let me know how you did it? I am considering using an adaptor that allows the original sensor and the new larger sensor to be fitted together but am not sure of the amount of space available.
Access appears easiest through the arch liner but if anyone has already done this a pointer to the right thread would be appreciated.
Have also blanked the EGR now using the ball bearing in the vacuum pipe trick.
Thanks again to everyone who has posted just wish id found this site years ago!!

Blanking the vac pipe is not the answer as I have not seen a valve yet that does not pass exhaust gas when supposedly closed, the only way is a blanking plate, Rick
