View Full Version : Patrol Headlights...

So I have decided to change my headlights.

My Patrol has had HID conversions on since the day I bought it and I hate them.

I hate the way other drivers feel they need to flash at me to turn off high beam.
I hate the way high beam makes no difference to the darkness in front.
I hate the way they have scorched the original reflectors.
I hate the way they have to warm up.
I hate the way sometimes one decides not to come on and I have to turn them off and on again.

Did I mention I hate them?

So I need some new headlights and I'm just going to put some decent Night Breakers in them...

Looking at the headlights available for my year and model, and I think I will have to get the manually adjusted version. (i.e, I wont be able to use the little numbered control in the cab to raise and lower the beam angle)

I had wondered, because I can't seem to find an answer, if the headlights from the 2005 (GU4) shape onwards might fit?

I know that the headlights and indicators in mine are two separate bits, and in the newer shape they are one whole unit... But the general shape of the lights look like they may fit?

Oh wat to do!?

Jay, I feel your pain...
There is a slight body shape quirk which means the 05's don't fit. It's on the front of the wing panel I think.
I have been looking for a replacement drivers-side motorised headlamp for about a year now.
I'm refusing to pay £300 to Nissan for a new unit, so I'm hanging on and trawling for a breaker to come up with one to match the off-side headlamp. One of the curses of owning a 04 changeover model I guess.

Hmmm.

Is your motor broken?

What I think I might do is buy the non motorised ones and either:

a) Live without the adjustment function.
b) Bake the headlights and swap the reflectors over.

I did even consider buying some Projectors and retrofitting them into the lights. (Also requires baking!)

Haha, my motor is good thanks, but with a small bullet hole in the glass lens which has meant the mirrored reflector has oxidised.
The non-motorised lamps are out there, it's finding right-hand drive ones.
The 'D' fog lamp underneath has suffered the same fate to...odd.
Previous owner behaviour!
I've seen someone do a reflector swap to good effect on the Aussie forum.
What do you mean by 'baking', this sounds interesting!

Baking.

When you remove the headlight from the car, you put it in the oven to melt the silicone seal.

Then you can pull off the lens to get to the reflector inside.

Was about to buy off this site, but now I'm questioning whether they will be right?

I stated that the headlights on this site were for RHD cars, but the wording actually says "Right-Hand Traffic"

You beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing.
Some suppliers refer to handing from within the vehicle, and others from outside looking at the vehicle also.
In this case, I've a funny feeling there for driving on the right hand side. As you say.:nenau

Pop them an email, most Germans speak reasonable English. But you're probably correct in the assumption.

I agree, I would deffo contact a seller regarding handing of anything unless they have an illustration/description of their interpretation. :thumb2

I've gone into a bit more detail on my build thread.

I don't know too much about HID lights Jay, but can't you just convert the ones you have, back to original instead of buying new units?
Scrub that, I've just seen the reason on your Build thread.

Tonight we will have the answers... I've taken out the HID's and have installed the Halogens.

Pictures to follow...
