I have owned mavericks for over 10 years now and love them to bits!
My last one died of rear end chassis rot ( not uncommon lol) and have just picked up an ex police Terry 2.7 '05 plate with 100k on it. 1 owner afetr police who diid full service every year til i got it. Clean coach work (miracle) and only minor surface rust on chassis legs.
Makes my teeth stick out when I go out to it every morning, especially now I put an original set of black Maverick wheels from my old one on it with some Maxxis bighorns!
After sorting out a couple of minor grizzles, white smoke on start up turned out to be a faulty glow plug.
Only issue now is a little excess vibration at idle and noisy dash when driving again from vibrations.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Also handy to know when buying you can look up on the VOSA website atv all previous MOTs and advisory's which helped me narrow down the field a bit.

Many thanks in advance and look forward to helping out when I can.
Cheers

Hi and welcome. After 10 years ownership of these, you should be able to offer quality advice too.
A photo or 2 would also stop the "we want photos brigade " pestering you:lol

I use photobucket. I upload the photo there and copy and paste the img link into the thread.
Just this minute done this for Jim on his 3ltr thread and works well but others are having problems with photobucket:nenau

Hi and welcome mate, I set my camera to low res, (around 100k res) take the pics, stick the mem card in the lappy then just use the paper clip icon and follow it through, Rick

Welcome matey.

Being an ex police vehicle would I be right in thinking that there are a few extra "mounted cavalry" underneath the bonnet :bobby: :sly :sly

British plod don't do that. They run standard vehicles. Even in the US they're rarely tuned, they just have updated drivetrains, brakes and suspension. If they need a more powerful vehicle they buy a more powerful vehicle.

Looked awful, looked like it had been in a shootout there were that many holes in the dashboard :doh

I'm sure they used to. I bought an ex-police Mkii Escort that definitely wasn't the sedate 1100cc stated on the log book.

Welcome Lobo. :D

When I was a plod back in 1971 our standard Panda was a Morris Minor 1000, Police specification consisted of a high output alternator for the VHF radio and a servo for the standard drum brakes !

Our Traffic Cars and Driving School cars were Vauxhall Venturas 3.3 L but for Police use you got a Victor Badges and standard Victor interior and exterior trim with Michelin X tyres. Rural areas got V8 petrol Range Rovers for Traffic.

Our first proper PSU vehicles were V8 Sherpas - they were fast but a tad top heavy due to steel window protection all round!

When we had a new Chief Constable we went over to BMW 2500 Saloons for Traffic (Guess what car the Chief bought for himself - yep a BMW) and then Jaguar XJS's for Motorway Patrol work between J 25 & J30 despite this section of the M1 going through 3 counties all offenders appeared at the old Alfreton Magistrates Court to ensure uniformity and consistent sentencing.

All Police Forces could buy and tune what the Chief wanted - The Met had Daimler Darts as Q cars ! It took decades before Police Vehicle Procurement came under Home Office Guidance via Central Procurement Systems where they picked from an approved list except for Specialist Units like the old Crime Squad now NCIS for obvious reasons they can buy anything that fits the need.

Thankyou for the warm welcome.
Interestingly my son thought that it would likely have a stage 1 remap.
It is definitely alot faster through 4th and takes off in 5th.
I had the same car though a mav before and it wasn't like that.
Could be the last one was not 100% but never felt that way for the 7 years I owned it.
I'm going to put my detective hat on and find out if there's any shenanigans'.

Thanks again everyone.
