View Full Version : Hi all :)
Hi all,
I'm Brian, I'm a keen out doorsey bloke who loves 4x4's and the colour green! Ex army, currently a security guard. I work on a large area of land and have access to a really good sort of green lane circuit. I used to patrol round it in my old Toyota Landcruiser. I have permission to shoot there on my off days, and the owners like me to take my dogs with me to work! It's probably the BEST job I have ever had! My dogs and I are just loving the place.
I'm just about to think about parting with money (in a few days) for this 2005 Patrol...

Any advice apart from the usual second hand car stuff to look for?
I'm buying with a view to turning it into a part time overlander. It'll also be my daily ride, and I'll have to be able to accommodate my dogs in the back during the working week.
I also have the start of a basic list of kit/mods..
Nissan Patrol Kit List
First Aid Kit.
Shelter kit.
Remove towing hitch?
Bonnet Protector.
Boot tarp.
Wind deflectors.
Dash Mate.
Tyre repair kit.
Off road recovery kit – including shovel.
Rear door gas strut.
Bluetooth/USB head unit.
CB Radio.
Snorkel.
Suspension 2” lift?
Off road tyres. Need size advice...
Sand ladders.
Bull bars winch mount.
Winch.
Rock sliders.
Roof rack.
Rear ladder.
Rear door table.
So basically hi all, and whaddya think?
Brian :)
P.S. I build/repair PC's as a hobby, here's my currant gaming machine..

 I want your life :D:lol
Welcome mate you will like it on here, plenty of trol owners and they aren't shy when it comes to getting their hands dirty :thumbs
I have a Terrano (don't be jealous, you'll get there one day :D) so I'm not very clued up on trol mods but if I wanted to learn I would check out threads by MrK, Barrbeast (foxy, not bess), Jay666d and Daveyboy, there are others but I can't remember their names :doh

Pudding, and a snooze...
Well, it'll take a while to get that lot together, but the first 10-14 items will be done within the first month. I'll need advice on shocks and springs mainly as I'm not sure on the overall weight of all the extras I'll be gluing on!
I'll be posting a shed load of questions in the relevant threads later on as I learn what I need to ask.. It seems to me that every YouTube video I look at there's another item to add to the list, but I'm not going to run out with my piggy bank until I know what I NEED and can afford - Shovel, sand ladders.. (sensible stuff) - as opposed to what I'd like.. Kitchen staff, butler etc.. (after I win the lottery!!)
Really looking forward to getting back into the 4x4 world as I have had some sort of midlife crisis, and stupidly bought a BMW 750 (which I love - comfort, power... POWER!! And loads of buttons..) But my heart lies in a more capable and practical vehicle. Plus my dogs are getting sick of me growling at them if they look at my leather seats funny!
I think this will take at least a year to stick together, I want to do a good job and get things right first time.
Thanks guys :)

Hi welcome to the forum, nice looking truck. Now I can't offer any advice on price, after all, it is nearly 22 years since I bought my last one lol...:doh
But what I will say, if you intend to add value and keep it for quite a few years, then the initial higher price (if any) will fall into insignificance if it's the right truck for you.
But, best to have a couple on the back burner, then negotiate.
Nice to have some new ideas coming on board.

Not a caulkhead, mainland originally but it has been home roughly 18 years. Near Cowes as well !!
Have you thought about adding a spoiler to that list of mods :lol :lol will give it instant style tearing it up down the Military Road may get in the way of the ladder though.

I'm not a proper caulkhead either.. No webbed feet! And definitely NO Spoiler!!! You'll be suggesting I get lowering springs and 24" chrome spinners next!
We'll have to meet up for a pint at some point :beer

TBH with the low mileage, if it has FSH etc I think the price is not too bad. When I was looking for a Patrol a coupe of years back they wanted £7500 for motors with 140 k on the clock hence how I ended up with the Jeep for my sins.
If you have no part exchange there is always room for haggle.
Welcome :thumb2
One of my favourite modified Patrols is that newer shape so would love to see this come together.
I don't know about anyone else but it seems more and more people are heading towards modifying Patrols and away from Land rovers. Prices seem to have gone up a bit on them and there's more stuff to get for them too which is great.
Hope you stick around as said I'd like to see this come together, I can help with some advice as and when you may need it hopefully
I just cant wait to play with the new toy at the moment! I really loved the old Landcruiser and that was 25 years old when I part ex'ed that.

caulkhead????????????????????? Rick
Hi,
Yep, Caulkhead meaning true Isle of Wighter as apposed britrb and myself who are classed as Overners or from the Big / Other Island.
I have been told to be a Caulkhead you need to have at least three generations of the family from both sides born on the island along with yourself.
The Islanders used to do alot of the Caulking of wooden ships apparently and that is where the term comes from although nobody knows for sure how it originated. There are also stories that true Islanders can float home across the Solent because of the amount of Caulk in their heads.
