View Full Version : Been given a free Caravan!!!
Long story short I ran into a total stranger in a charity shop on Friday on my lunch break in town who was giving a caravan away. He was talking to the manager of the charity shop and I was ear wigging and rudely intervened and offer to relieve him of his caravan.
6pm on Friday night after work and 15 miles later I arrived at the farm where it had been parked for the last 2 years, covered in moss and looking a bit sorry for itself.
I hooked it up to the truck, plugged the electrics which all work and stuck a plate on the back and I was gone, dropped it back to work as we were all going out to see our boss off who is leaving and then towed it back another 27 miles back home at midnight :lol
Took it for a jet wash earlier and it's come up nice :thumb2

You jammy sod:thumbs
It's a 2 Berth Monza 360D Deluxe
Working electrics, working gas stove and came with a Calor gas bottle half full with all connections. All windows intact and operable. Brand new spare tyre.
The inside is all intact, few cupboards need new latches etc, carpet is a bit tired, wants a bit of work inside but nothing I wont be able to sort out myself :thumb2
Question now is, do I store it and use it for weekends away green laning etc or do I flip it on via eBay and make a few quid :nenau

I'm going to say use it for weekends away. Just stay away from caravan club sites. :sly

Sorry Banshee but if you were given it in good faith and then sell it to profit out of it then to me it leaves a bitter taste. Yes I know the bloke gave it away no strings but to me it doesn't seem right but you must do what you feel is right.
Personally though I'd keep it for weekends away and see how you like Caravaning. Looks a nice basic van to have some cheap breaks away if you have somewhere to store it.

Not so for me, once you invest time and money making it better. The previous owner probably knows full well the worth of the caravan, might just not have had the time to either restore it himself or to negotiate a sale.

It was still gifted, it seems a bit disingenuous to accept it as such, then turn a profit on it...:nenau

Good luck and enjoy working on it.

If the guy gave it away with no strings attached then don't think it's any of or business what Zac does with it.
If he was bothered about cash then surely he would have sold it himself :nenau

sure its 2 berth? looks from window layout like more, 3 to 4 berth?
careful with power washing, can disturb body seals.
ref caravan club, to me best part of membership is 5 van farm sites, Certified locations
and rallies... a field with no facilities except water and drain typically fiver to tenner max a night.
whilst looks narrow ish, would add towing mirrors.
Frankie would be proud.
Whether I keep it or sell it, it's totally my call and the Caravan was given to me no strings attached so I'll make a call depending on whether I can find storage close to me and for a good price.
It is actually a 3 berth when I messed with the chair configuration this evening.
I managed to get my old Lucas Leisure battery on the Caravan and get the lights on and working so I could have a sort out inside.

Looks alright bloke.
I'm no tin tent fan, wife and I tend to favour large plump beds, hot and cold running water, flushing toilets and 4+ stars over the door, (Not being flash, she works for an airline so has access to cheap deals :D ) but looks a damn sight better than a tent or sleeping in the car.

Now here is a question...
Was the caravan the farmer's property to dispose of, or had a client defaulted on storage payments and the farmer wants to simply get rid? :nenau
Unlikely for the age and value of the caravan, but could it have been stolen, hidden etc?
I guess if the farmer had the original keys to the door, it could well be a genuine situation.
Just a thought.

The guy who owned the caravan was storing it at the farm, I had no dealings with the farmer at all.
The farmer was being evicted from his farm on Monday and as such all property was to be removed before Monday. The caravan owner had nowhere to store it, didn't want to pay storage fees and had no tow bar on his Honda CR-V, he used to used a Discovery to take it about the country but he's since got rid of that.
I've got the original door key, etc etc it's all above board

You need to try being a weekend Gypsy / Shed Drager for the summer (sorry I mean Traveler) and post on here how it's opened up your world to new experiences.
There are plenty of avid Tin Tenters on here even though I am not among the Enlightened Ones.

Depends if I can store it somewhere for a while Rick, I can't keep it at the house, I've just not got the room on the drive and it means having to manoeuvre it around every time I want to work on the Terrano against the garage.
If I keep it I really feel like going to town on it, but don't be surprised if I eBay it because I get the hump with it at the drop of a hat :lol
