Hello from a rather miserable south Wales

Hi and just a quick hello from a rather miserable taffy

I'm a chainsaw/chipper technician based in south Wales with a rather large family 7 of us in total (should of got an xbox sooner) who used to own a rather nice td5 unfortunately due to someone else thinking it was also rather nice I no longer have a a td5

So I'm now looking for a terranno but don't no a great deal about them eg tuning off road ability and generally living with them but il be picking your brains with loads of random questions as the days/weeks go on

Hi and welcome aboard. Several members from wales and plenty people mod them. To be fair a standard truck is a very capable motor. Rust is the biggest enemy but not too bad to repair either. I've had a 2.7 since 2002 and loved, only reason I still don't have it is because some dope was on the wrong side of the road but as I've been told if my wife hadn't of been in such a substantial truck she probably wouldn't be with us. 3litres are supposed to be really great engines too and a little better mpg and oomf but I have no complaints about the 2.7

If you are seriously planning on getting a terrano this is the best place to be.

Man, you are in the right place. Plenty of tuning if that's your bag, although if you buy a 3.0ltr I'd have thought 150bhp was enough (plenty for me, will tow 3ton). Off road ability... well standard with good all terrain tyres, I've got General Grabbers A/T, that gets me across muddy fields, muddy tracks and muddy hills to shoots well enough.

I'm pretty sure someone will be along shortly with suggestions of body/suspension lifts and bigger tyres, but they're not necessary unless you want to do some difficult green laning.

Just returned from looking at a 2003 3.0 di sve good price nice truck while I was more interested in how it drove the wife was having a good poke about the interior and seems to think the middle belt in the second row was only a lap belt can anyone shead any light on this for me and thanks for the warm welcome

Middle belt in centre back is lap only, rear rear bench has 2 x lap/diagonal I believe...

Yes newer models are a 3 point centre belt. I used to have an 05 plate for a while. Think they were introduced around 04 or 54.

By the way as you are looking at Terranos take a look inside the rear wheel arch, towards the front of it you'll see a nut which is the rear seatbelt an hor point. They rot out around there same as the rear half of the inner and outer sills. These are not difficult to repair but could get you a few quid off the price.

I have a 2005 3.0ltr lwb. Middle seat belt is full three point mounted in roof on passenger side just behind rear door.

Mines an 04 3ltr sve. All 7 belts are 3 point. No lap belts.

Right then ladies and gentle men been and tested another truck today this time a 2.7td and I've got to say I'm really impressed with the way the terranno feels but I do have my concerns before I part with my wife's money,

Mainly when I got my landy I paid silly money for it but it had already been tuned to nearly 200 bhp by a certain tuning company that shall remain un named, realistically is this a figure that I'd be able to get out of the 3.0 with out killing it and would it mean parting with my right arm, And before I get burnt at the stake I just feel like it could do with more oomph in my opinion

Any input on this would be great

I'm quite tuned up on the 2.7 but 200 bhp is a big ask, and yes arm and leg. The 3.0 would get to around 170 ish I believe with a good remap. IF you can find a live remap chap who'll do it on a rolling road you could get more. Basics like blank off egr and oil catch can, followed by a decent exhaust with free flow air filter will pay dividends ofcourse:thumb2

Having just brought a 3 litre on behalf of my Grandad to replace his knackered BMW, I'd say leave it standard. You may be surprised at the power it has out of the box, plus if you drive it around for a while first, if you do end up with a remap then you'll appreciate it more as you'll have already had a chance to get used to it and should feel the power increase :naughty

You can mod these motors silly and they just get better and better but as mentioned, they 'aint half bad out the factory and unless you are doing some serious off roading then leave it be and enjoy. The only thing I'd recommend for certain is swapping road tyres for some AT's (or Muds if you are so inclined) then if you do have need to venture onto the slippy stuff for work or leisure you won't look like a plum with all 4 wheels spinning :cool:

Stick around and if you find any online that you like the look of, slap the links up and we can offer our expert eyes, there's a few rogues out there at the minute and a few nasty examples on eBay and Autotrader so tread with caution :thumb2

Just for info. Autos towing weight is only 2tn where as an identical truck in manual is 2.8tn(?)

I can't help but agree with Banshee on this one. I have a LWB 3.0ltr auto box, running on Hankook Dynapro ATM's. It is a powerful machine out of the box trust me, I had a reasonable 300tdi Disco previously, and this T2 knocks it into a cocked hat. It pulls over very big trees for a good part of its working life, and has not failed to succeed and impress. It tows large trailerloads of firewood, and skids out stems as well......it ain't no Timberjack to be sure, but it does for me...:thumb2

Run one for a while as Banshee says, I think, like other 3.0 ltr owners, you will also be impressed......:thumb2

Right then looked at more or less every truck in my area and can't find 1 with 3 3 point middle row seats how difficult would it be to fit them can't find an image on Google or anything related to it. this is a deal breaker for me has I have 5 little uns and really need a truck as I'm losing work as the P.O.S PEUGEOT I bought (feel dirty jut saying the name) hasn't got the power to pull the skin off a sausage help please

Not really possible as the mount is a streangthened part of the roof during construction, even if you could match it you would need to get it tested by VOSA, Rick

Well took a 70 year old who's crazier than a bag of burning cats to solve my problem

My mum today come up with the idea of getting a child seat that works off a lap belt wtf nearly 20 years of me being a technician why didn't it think of that bet u if u asked my mum how many wheels a car has the reply would be what's a wheel :-/
