This might seem a daft question but is there a way I can use my laptop for internet banking and light searching without having Broadband at my house ?

At present I have Virgin Media but looking to make some savings in the future by just having Freesat like I have in our front room for TV.

Unfortunately I am in a poor signal area so can't get a terrestrial signal and the only phone signal I can get is with 02 or a provider that uses the 02 network.

I have it in my mind that you can get some sort of gadget that I can plug into my laptop that will let me do this. I don't have a Tablet with no plans to get one any time soon. I don't download music or films but do surf U Tube.

My connection is purely mobile phone based, via a tablet which is set as a mobile hot spot, but I used to have a USB dongle that plugged in to the laptop direct, only reason I changed was got a free tablet and a better deal, Rick

If you have a mobile phone which has the option to "Set as Wi-Fi hot spot" and a laptop which has Wi-Fi capability, then "Simples".

Alternatively, plug laptop into phone, use phone as wired network connection for laptop.

We have BT landline with standard broadband and wi-fi router and FreeView TV.

Okay so what is a USB Dongle is it something you buy from a mobile phone company or can you buy one on the intanet that will work on any Hot Spot ?

Not sure TBH as to what a Hot Spot is or how to find if I have one where I live ?
P.S. I also don't know much about Clouds except mick Jagger want me to get off his.

What sort of monthly cost is BT also do you have to buy a certain amount of download data I have no idea what sort of download I use ?

We are paying some £87.81 p.c.m. with VM for Broadband at lowest speed (quite fast enough), phone included with free calls under 60 mins long and with 2 TIVO boxes. No sport or film packages just the basic deal. The cost has just crept up over the last 20 years with a hefty £10-£15 when we had the extra TIVO box a couple of years ago.

I am on a rolling monthly contract I think. Friends tell me if I tell them I am leaving they will do me a better deal but I am not a great negotiator.

Me and my housemate pay 31 pounds a month for line rental & 40mb bt broadband unlimited data. No free calls so just inbound calls but we have a mobile hotspot connected to the internet through the router which puts out phone signal for EE so we use out mobiles for outbound/inbound calls around the house. (we both have mobile phone contracts)

Have you looked around to see other company deals? You're paying quite a lot for that, I'm sure if you shopped about you could get that to about 40-50 Per month. Maybe no Tivo boxes, no idea what you get with it but theres plenty of channels on freesat and On demand.

I don't know if mobile internet is an option at your place, guess it depends on what the signal is like and if they have 3G in the area.
