Odd one Annette.
Did the revs increase, but the speed stay the same?
No revs.machanics just been out again lol.he said it's dropping into something but can't remember what he said something to do with 4x4.he said nearly everything is brand new in the engine bay which I could see when he showed me.I no what a turbo is now:lolbut he's taking it Saturday for a good look over
How would he know everything is new??
He just said it's had some money spent on it.showed me the turbo after he took pipe off it and said that was new.radiator he said was brand new.all the pipes are new could see that myself as all the jubilee clips are brand new::lolhe did say something about needing a new intercooler :nenau.I've got a limit on how much I want to spend on it before I say no more.but he's reassured me these engines run forever if looked after.:nenau

I got inter coolers, Rick
Manual.it's had me in tears today but apparently I'm worrying about nothing. I love the car and won't give up with it:thumbs

Is yours Bosch or Zexel pumped? cos I have a Zexel head if you need one, the way to tell is look at the Maf on the intake to the turbo, if it is Bosch then I cannot help, if it is Hitachi then my head will fit, I have tried drilling out glow plugs, problem is the metal is hard so ordinary drills will not work, specialist companies may well have kit to deal with it but will not be cheap, Rick

Annette it's not worth the tears believe me!!!!! If it gets that bad I'll come and fix it myself for you :thumbs
Your mechanic sounds like a wise guy and certainly sounds like he's had some experience of these motors before and he's exactly right, these engine are largely bulletproof and since joining here in 2012 I've only known 2 people blow them up and 1 of those is still going and suspected to just be a "venting" issue
Can you be more specific with what it's doing?
What is is doing when Idling? What does the revometer read?
Does the car feel like it's low on power and holding back when accelerating?
Do you get any smoke from the exhaust when it struggles?
Does the car pull OK 3rd gear and onwards?

surly if its sucking air in intercooler it will be under powered, make sure both rubber pipes in and out of inter are tight.if its hole in inter repair or replace.as pipes get warmed up leaks can close.also mini filter on ip can block on derv.

And if it is a Hitachi MAF, it can be cleaned - worked wonders when mine went into limp mode.
The revometer stays the same.yes foot fully down in first and second hardly any power no smoke from exhaust. When I get it into 3rd it's fine.don't know if it's bosch or the other one:lol

OK great, next step is to go outside with some help if you're not sure what you're looking at and get a picture of the entire engine bay if possible
Specifically, get some close up pictures of the large cylindrical black canister with the large pipe coming off it on the left hand side, this is found in the front right of the engine bay.
Secondly, smack bang in the centre of the engine bay you'll have the large silver intercooler, this looks like a horizontal radiator if you will and underneath it on both the left and right hand side will be 2 rubber hoses held onto the intercooler with either large spring clips or jubilee clips, get some close up snaps of those.
From what you have described so far it either sounds to me like you have a dodgy MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor or as stated above, you may be sucking in air from the rubber hoses to the intercooler and losing power that way.
There are two types of MAF's, a Bosch variety and a Hitachi variety, it's widely accepted that the Bosch should be left well alone as if you try to clean it you will damage it, I know from first hand experience that YOU WILL kill it if you try and clean it, the Hitachi on the other hand can be cleaned to great effect using silicone free electrical contact cleaner, I brought mine from Maplins, there is a guide how to do this yourself requiring no more tools than what you'd have lying around in the kitchen drawer at home, you won't be able to access that part of the site yet though as you've not become a full member by paying the £10 per year subscription.
We'll see you straight, do not be dismayed or upset any longer, I'm sure you will be sorted in no time and will end up a long standing member. :thumb2

panelbeater/banshee, have to chastise you both, the intercooler cannot draw air it is under positive pressure from the turbo, so it will leak air:rolleyes:, Rick

Damn you Panelbeater!!!! :lol I knew what I meant, puff or suck, if the hose is damaged it will cause the issues Annette is having, I hope she's not out there worrying about it some more at the moment :augie

slapped wrist time.
i needed to take off my intercooler and left the pipe from turbo to it loose my error,it went but underpowered and smoke,on tightening it up all was well.
on my way home a nevarder was otherside of road with bonnet up,he says its gone into limp mode,on looking i noticed same pipe on his was loose, jub clip loose,on tightening it was ok.so conclude what you will.
Well since he took the pipe off the intercooler and put it back on its run like a dream took it out yesterday for a good run with no problems at all.Saturday hes going to have a good look over it
