Hi,
Another newbie here from Cheshire. Just dropped in to say hello. Bought an 05 2.7 manual Terrano today and hope it turns out to be a good vehicle (first one). Looks like a great forum with lots of great advice. Craig

Welcome!
It's not often I get in first, you'll find plenty of help on here. There's all the Nissan workshop manuals for help, and lots of members "how to " guides for the most common problems, although you would have to part with a tenner to access them and search the forums. As many, including myself, can attest you'll save way more than a tenner in advice and garage costs.
So come on in and get comfortable. There'll be others along shortly, and as I got in first...
...PICTURES !!!!!
Let's see ya truck.

Worth every penny. My fuel lines sprang a leak. Garage said £180. The guys on here said "do it yourself".
£40 and an afternoon under the truck on ramps. Job done.
Then there was the brake drums, seat belts, wiring questions etc. It'll be the most value for money tenner a year you ever spend.
It's not just truck related help either. You name it! They've even been known to relay an eBay purchase from up north to the south coast.
I'm not sure I should mention the jokes. Look out for Briggie!

Welcome mate, pics is easy if they are not to big, once you are in the post screen you will see a paper clip icon, click on that and follow the prompts, or if big (memory wise or more than one) then upload them to photo bucket and post a linky, Rick

Will be an easy fix mate!!!!
I presume you're running it on straight Diesel? Reason I ask is because so of us run ours on Cooking Oil :naughty
Did you allow the glow plug light to illuminate and then go out before attempting to start? I always allow mine to go out but if you wait for a further 10-15 seconds you'll hear the glow plug relay click indicating that the glow plugs are no longer getting power. I always wait for the click. Annoyingly Nissan mounted the relay in between the inner wing and outer wing and picks up loads of road crap that can rot the conenctor and terminals of the relay, I had to repair mine not too long ago.
When it did finally start, was it lumpy idling until warm?

Bought it of a dealer yesterday. Running it on diesel, ran fine yesterday to get me home from Leeds to Cheshire. The dealer was moving another 4x4 next to it yesterday when we arrived so perhaps he's jump started it. I did wait for the glow plug light to go off but the battery has died off quite quickly now, but was turning over quite strongly.

Rang the dealer, they said spray easy start into the air intake and hey presto it started with a jump start. They reckon it'll be plugs and I'll have to take it back to them to be fitted !!!!

OK so that sounds to me like the battery is duff or the alternator isn't charging it back up enough.
Do you have as multimeter handy and know how to use one?

My neighbour just plugged one of those testers into the cigarette lighter power point and it's read 14.4 with the engine running ?

You need to read the voltage AT the battery while it's running, then read the battery voltage after its been sat turned off for a while. The cigarette lighter isn't wired DIRECTLY to the battery.
If the battery won't hold a charge it doesn't matter how good the alternator is, and if there's a poor connection to the battery the alternator won't charge the battery properly.

Welcome aboard, nice looking truck. If you need a battery I got one from Halfords the other week. Yuasa they started off at £119 and then after asking if they could discount it I got it for £99.
Also check the battery terminals, think theres a download regarding these in quick links. The cable basically breaks where the terminal attaches.

Tested with multimeter, 14.4v running and 13v stood ? So seems like the alternator is putting charge into it ?

Garage has said if I get a quote for new glow plug's fitted they'd supply the plugs and pay them to be fitted locally to save me traveling back ! .....or maybe they don't fancy taking on the job themselves :(

Perfect!!!! In which case yep it's going to be the plugs
You can expect to pay about £10 a plug if you end up taking the hit on them. We always recommend using metal tipped ones as the ceramic can break off when they fail and drop into the engine causing damage. Best ones I've found so far are Lucas LP079.
Easy to replace, whip the intercooler off, x2 14mm nuts, x2 14mm bolts, tuck the two large black water pipes out of the way and use a long reach 12mm socket on an extension bar staying square on the plugs at all times.
Be very careful as if they have been in there a while they may have seized and will break off into the head requiring them to be drilled out.
This is what happens with ceramic tipped plugs;

https://image.ibb.co/dWwwXv/20131220_012311.jpg
And this is what a working plug should look like attached to a set of jump leads, negative one onto the threaded body and touch the top tip with the positive, check for even glow from tip to base :thumb2

Well at least they're making an effort. That's better than a lot of dealers we hear about.
I don't know enough about that side of things to say if that's the problem, I'm someone else will be able to advise better.

Shame you're not closer mate, I'd have done the job for you in an hour tops!!!!
Expect to pay more if you contact your local motor factors for Lucas plugs, if you don't mind waiting for them, contact a place called Premier Factors in Walsall, last lot I got from them for 4 came to just shy of £20 including postage

Only thing I really hated about the later trucks is that silly folding parcel shelf. The earlier roller blinds are much easier.

Local garage have said £60 to change plugs if no problems ! +£80 if need to drill out if you can drill straight down. If head needs to come off to drill £500 + :doh

A tip that few know about.
Always change the plugs on a hot engine. NEVER a cold one. They come out very easily on a hot engine.
Tell your garage that. If they snap them off, they're trying to make money out of you.

If you do need to replace the battery I rate Yuassa but Halfords are charging you for fitting in the price. it should be nearer the £80 mark. Have you visited this site a Yuassa 019 5 yr warranty 100 Ah 900 cca for my Jeep was £86 including delivery. They are often cheaper on e -bay than on their wesite !

Out of interest the Hankook 4 year warranty ones are worth a look.

Hot engine tip works.
Just mention to the garage they'll come out easy when engine hot,
Keep the cost to £60 mark

I have 2 Yuassa Batteries on tractors I have. Very good indeed. I left one of the tractors for 3 months and went to it the other morning, lifted off the frosty sheet and re-connected the battery and after a little lazy turning, span the tractor over and it fired right up.
The tractor has 4 very good glow plugs on which helps.
Try to steer away from Easy Start if you can. It burns the top end of the engine and will wear it out over time. A little squirt now and then is OK though. Always have a can handy for the old tractors.
Nice truck by the way. Yours is much cleaner inside than mine. They look good in the LWB spec too.
Hope you enjoy it :thumb2

So the truck went into the garage today. They've removed the old glow plugs but ones broke in the process !! The guy who drills them out is coming tomorrow morning. So hopefully should have it back by tomorrow evening. Just hope they don't have to take the head off to drill and the dealer stands by his word in paying for it :nenau

Breakages not uncommon, on Merccedes the injectors are held in place with a sort of horseshoe spring clamp design on most models. They are often so stuck you can lift the car up off the ground by the injector and it will not come out !
At work they get a Diesel Specialist (Service Motors of Spondon) to do a mobile removal service for the firm as our Technicians cant't or wont do it themselves. In rare cases they have to remove the cylinder head.

I wish I'd have offered to meet you somewhere now on a motorway services and I've have done it for you in the hour :( I don't know how they've managed that, I've done loads now and never broken one, get the engine hot, soak the hell out of them and slowly untighten and tighten again and keep backing them off little by little until they come out.
I've never even got close to breaking one before, I'm sorry you've had this problem chap!!!

Sure it will fire a dream!!!! My tip with these is to not only wait for the plug light to go out but wait until you hear the loud click come from the right wing area, that's the relay letting you know it's ready to go :naughty

Update on car ! It's starting fine now :) Took her on a 200mile round trip today from Wilmslow to shap, then back to Oldham and returned to Wilmslow.
On the way home from Shap I started to get a grinding/creaking/knocking sound from the rear end :doh
Not a happy bunny !!! Haven't a clue what it is, I'll have to take a look tomorrow. Just praying it's nothing serious.
