First of all happy new year all, not been on for a while!!!!!

I recently ran out of fuel for my oil central heating at home so I filled my jerry can with fuel and topped up the tank.
Can I fill the same jerry can with diesel and put it in my terrano or do I need to flush it clean with something??

Cheers
Kev

If it was kerosene just satisfy your self that it is empty before filling with diesel it will be fine.

Your post took me back to when I had a summer job in the Parts Department at a Vauxhall Dealer in Derby circa 1962-3.

The Service Manager was a great guy named Keith Dunne who came from Southern Ireland I think he had an old Standard Vanguard Saloon that he used to run on a Petrol / Paraffin mixture boy did it have a smelly exhaust and make some engine noise !

My Father lost touch with Keith in the 1970's when he moved to the Cornwall area as a sales representative flogging light bulbs !

ok so how long will the diesel last in the jerry can? does it have a shelf life if you like?

Stock piling whilst it's cheaper lol.

Got to think about any long term effects on the plastic jerry can too besides the fuel going off but not sure if it does go off unlike petrol but im sure someone will be along with more knowledge.

Diesel is organic and will develop organisms, so don't keep it too long.
Just use it after a while and replace if you want to keep a cans worth.:thumb2
