Anyone heard of this, or even use it ? It would appear that someone has electronically mapped the surface of the earth into 3x3m grid squares, and then used a bank of 25,000 unique words to identify each individual square using just three of them.

What's the point I hear you say, well my village has 11 houses, just 2 postcodes and most houses have no numbers which makes ad-hoc delivery quite difficult; yet one unique phrase identifies my front door

To achieve the same accuracy using Lat/Long requires a string of 16 numbers. Further, large parts of the world don't even have postcodes, numbers or even street names; but using this system a simple identifier can be generated and communicated for any point on the earth's surface.

I think it's very clever, have a look HERE (http://what3words.com)

A place I used to live is x.x.x which could be quite apt. :)

I passed not too far from you, Emjaybee, just before Christmas on my way to sunny Slough.

Interesting idea 57 x 10 to power of 12 is a lot of squares needing a lot of words wonder if they change language with each country ?

My address seems to have a lot of different names depending which room I am in and where I am in the garden all quite different ?

Sounds like Amazons Drone Delivery service when it rolls out will be able to pop a parcel in your back garden!

Not so good for High Rise Flats though?

super idea why our 2 bed semi has 3 unique squares let alone the ones covering
our garden.

going to pass it development team at work as sure could help our deliveries.

thanks for the link.

would help the camping club we use too as often there is no practical postcode
but this would pinpoint the temporary sites' entrances.

I think a genuine concern is that the electoral role doesn't let the big wide world know what assets you have, It's quite common for less honest types to follow sites like Strava which is used by cyclists, then visit the cyclist's home to relieve them of their expensive bikes. So it's fair to say thaty most people here have vehicles and we've also been kind enough to put details into our signatures...

I think this has far reaching consequences not fully understood by most, still to get my pissed head round it, but marketing comes to mind, as does cold calling, Rick

Uncle Rustic here,
I'm surprised that some of you have posted your address on an open forum, when was it you said in the last thread, you were going away, for how long was that?

What tools do you have? in the shed are they?

I think a quick word with the moderator to ***** them out is a good thing to do.

Posting them say after a few drinks, to what you think are a few friends has now the potential to go worldwide, with some nasty consequences, only give your address to those that you know and trust.

Anyhow, in the sober light of the morning, if you are still happy, then fair play.
I do suggest you think again.

Uncle Rustic
My three word address is
Pristine. Ford. Maverick. and Waxoyled. Ford. Maverick. in the space my mav is parked lol.....:doh

PS don't even bother looking that up lol...

Personally, since the guys can't edit their posts, too long after posting, can I suggest you hide this thread and PM the guys if they are happy to see their addresses and delete as required...

Cannot say for Pete but here we have no problem, we are down a long farm drive and at night farmer locks top gate (up near the road alongside the farm house) day times nothing comes in or out that the farmers wife does not see, any vehicle not recognised has its number taken and walkers are accosted, I know this from issues with the council, and she was able to produce a diary with every comings and goings down the track, and from our gate you are on cctv 24/7 with 4 cameras, having said all that I would not object to thread deletion, even think it would be a good idea, Rick

I have never posted mine. And never would on a open forum.Like most i have cctv. And Ermm protection.(prefer not to say what).I think sometimes people forget that just because we mostly treat each others as mates. We forget that it is the internet. And info can be gleamed from it. (Easy sometimes to drop your guard)

they got the name of my road wrong

The road I live on is spelt as two words on one street sign and as one word at the other end of the road !

When I worked in Burton on Trent on Moseley Street it was spelt in two different ways at each end for years (Mosley & Moseley)

And #7 if we're going for a full clean up. I'm not that worried as it's a property that I lived in some 5 years ago and have no connection with it anymore.
