Downside is, I keep getting toddlers stop half way across zebra crossings to look at the lights on the Christmas tree...

The reason it is plugged in, is it has a built in Battery charger, which keeps the second battery topped up, and an Engine Pre-heater for cold weather. The lead runs back to a remote controlled socket, with the remote switches just inside the front door, so I can turn the bits on and off without actually going out the the car.

All the extra add on's run off of battery 2, and many of them draw a current all the time, like the heater in the rear view cameras, CB and PM radios, and most of the remote control accessories do as well. Between them all, it starts to add up and when the car sits unused for a week, or does only short runs, the 2nd battery does not get enough of a charge. Suz and I have been ill the last couple of weeks, and the car had sat on the drive, so I plugged it in.

Now... what was next...

Oh... High lift... I only put it on for the winter, but it has a multitude of uses...
I have a Lift mate, that allows you to lift a wheel directly, by hooking to the wheel... it means in things like the snow you can lift up a corner, and place stuff under a wheel. It also works as a short pull winch, that might be just enough to get me out of trouble if I got stuck on my own. When we are on call out, one of the things we do is fallen tree removal, and it can be used to support a branch as you cut through it. We also had a farm trailer we needed to recover one time, which had 2 wheels on a dolly at the front, and 2 wheels at the back, and the High Lift let me set the draw bar at the right height so I could reverse onto it... I have also used it under the tow bar a couple of times, when I wanted to lift the back end up.

The box under the light bar, is a 4 LED very bright Amber flashing beacon, along with the 6 little ones mounted round the number plate. On the back, you will see 2 more similar ones on the wings under the brake lights.

Clive you really need to do an in depth overview of your truck with pics. I love the idea of a preheater. Remember you starting a thread about blowing air over the lense of the camera to keep spray away from it but didn't know you had stuck a heater of sort in the camera.
