Have to say it was quite an interesting five mile drive to the tyre place.

No, not at all. I didn't do just the ends. I did the whole track rod, both sides.
I had a complete set of new tyres on my truck, which I bought earlier this year. I was supposed to be having the tracking done at the same time, but one side was seized solid. So for the sake of £60, I decided to replace both sides entirely.
Henceforth, I had to get tracking done afterwards.
Hence thread.

Yeah on one of my trucks i did inner and outer track rod ends both sides when i replaced the steering relay arm and the idler arm.The track rods can be a Barsteward to free off.
