Hi guys it's the big MOT for the project truck tomorrow (Thursday) :clap

Letting the garage fit the front pipe, didn't fancy those studs snapping. Got the insurance cover too. I'm in the process of editing some photos and will update the project thread tonight.

Good luck tomorrow Jim, what a fantastic project, a credit to both you and your son.
I never thought you would be ready yet, when I first saw the project, I thought this is going to take a long long time, then you kept finding something else that need fixing.
With all the other work you were doing with the cadets too...:thumb2

Some of you guys might just think I have grown rather attached to my _ _ year old Maverick that I have had from _ _ _, but every time I see one going to the scrap yard in the sky that is younger than my _ _ year old Maverick, it actually upsets me, as I think it has been short changed, and with a bit (or a lot) of Tlc can have a longer life. (Story of my life lol).
So great that another has been given another lease of life.
Well done Jim and Son. :clap:clap

I have made a bit of a quiz this time, put these words or numbers into the missing spaces above lol...
20 new 20
Hint:- each " _ " represents one letter or number.
:lol:lol:lol
Second hint, for those that struggle with quizes... They are in the correct order.:doh :lol:lol:lol

I need to get out more lol...

Moral for the day:-
As in life, early diagnosis and preventative maintenance, is the key to keeping us and our vehicles on the road for as long as possible.:thumb2

Haha well done Rustic.

Got to say I see it as a waste when there are less and less of these trucks on the road. These are good vehicles and I don't think there will ever be another truck quite like these.

Felt strange driving it to the garage this morning, after such a long time. Also felt odd driving an automatic, hope I can get used to it.

With an Automatic, I was told to imagine your left leg is tied back to the seat so you can't use it.. That was great advice.

don't fret too much, Jim, its the other garage that does the MOT and I bet he's just very busy and has simply missed your call, you know how things go sometimes for people.

Fingers crossed for a good result :thumbs

You'll soon get used to it mate:thumbs TBH auto are far better off road than manuals:clap I personally like auto & on long drives if your right leg gets tired you can just rest it & use your left leg & far nicer if your stuck in traffic:augie, next motor for me will be another auto

MOT chap just phoned with an update. Two of the exhaust studs snapped! I'm guessing he's probably only just started on it this morning. Ho hum will just have to see how it goes but I'm guessing this will be more expense.

Controversial Sweety! :lol

Have driven both on road and have to say having tried Steve's auto at the last laning weekend I still prefer my manual for offroad, autos are good generally though especially queues. Couldn't get used to the auto box on a steep descent as I'm used to the manual holding you back.

I'll 2nd that but I wouldn't mind the auto for the amount of motorway cruising I'm doing at the mo :doh

Yeah wife followed me to the garage yesterday. We had to travel down a couple of hills, she mentioned about me using the brakes a lot more than her and then went on to explain about me being in the auto and she was in the manual:eek::eek:

Can't imagine turfing the mrs out of our old manual truck:lol

Well no more news. The blokes phone has been going straight to voicemail since I tried calling at 3 o'clock. I'm quite annoyed because it's my wife's birthday today, booked it in yesterday so that we could go out today which we haven't been able to do. Can safely say that my choice of garage is indeed rather poor, ho hum nothing I can do about it now. No idea when I'll be able collect it as I'm busy on a course tomorrow. This has left an unpleasant taste.

Had to pay £150 for the test and labour due to the bolts snapping.

The auto box is fine once you get used to it Jim.
Off road on steep decents I drop mine into lowbox 1,flick the overdrive off and let the engine do the work. On road on steep decents I drop her into 2 and leave the brakes alone unless I really need them.
Once you have had a play around with it you will soon get to know what gears to use for what.
On steep climbs I flick mine into sport which holds the gears longer before it changes up.
Good news with the mot, give you and your son a pat on the back for taking on the challenge and succeeding!!!!
