finally relocated numberplate

Been on cards for ages and finally the old one fell of so thought I get on and put it on boot lid as when off roading mud etc keeps pushing it off. Also wanna chop rear bumper like a few on here has so now can do that as soon as the led rear light replacements turn up

I'll be looking to do this when I pick-up a Maverick / T2 as I just know I'll lose the number plate otherwise! :lol

One thing I don't understand is that the Mistral (T2 sold under a different name in other markets) had this setup as standard:

- I would've thought that Nissan / Ford would've used the same bodywork rather than manufacturing two versions at greater expense. :nenau

Most of the imports were fitted with square plates on the boot door

I think the problem is, we have a bigger standard number plate than a lot of countries. You can only fit the smaller moterbike number plate if the car is registered as an import and the location can not take a standard sized one.

Looks like Madmark's found a solution though (another would be fitting a plate holder like the ones you see on trailers etc.) :thumb2

There are a lot out there who have done this mod, but I did not like the way the door moulding groove runs behind the number plate, and would hold mud etc, plus you loose the badges, so went for using the spare wheel approach instead.

I kept the plastic mount for the bumper, covered it in aluminium chequer plate, so I could mount the towing sockets.

The great thing with the T2 is it does not worry about a bit of metal dragging through the mud, so it never caused any issues, but now I have one of those stabilisers built into the caravan coupling, so don't have that any more.

So. How you get the power for the lights into there??

I fed 3 extra wires through the flexible tube that the wires run through in the door hinged area.

1 from the side lights for the number plate light, and 2 from the boot courtesy light, for the down lighter for the rear cooking shelf. I also have the 2 camera wires there as well, but they were too big to run thought it, so are cable tied to the out side of it.

The wires for the number plate lights are fed out the rear door through a grommeted hole in the middle of where the spare wheel is bolted on. These wires run to a socket mounted in the centre of the spare wheel carrier. I then have a curly stretchy cord that plugs into that socket, and runs the the spare wheel cover, so there is enough wire to be able to remove it, to then be able to unplug it. The lights were from Ebay, and are LED motorbike number plate lights.

It's just a DRL mounted to the bottom of the extension Brake light..

Makes a nice "puddle" light when loading the boot at night as well.
