tool not needed, just do them up till no play in bearing then add eighth to quarter turn to get pre load, no more than quarter and no less than eighth to get the screws to line up, simples, Rick

Rick, from what I have read you need to get quite a bit of force to seat the new bearing. i have the kit to do all 6 bearings and all the axel seals:eek:
the proper tool may be a bonus.

But if you reckon not then I will bow to your wisdom and give it a go:thumb2

a good fitting rod in the bearing nut hole and a lever is more than adequate to give the required preload, as said quarter turn max, with the right tools I could get half turn or more but way too much, this does assume of course that you have seated the outer races hard against their stops, Rick

yes mate, the purpose of the tool was to make sure the new bearing was seated correctly.

The bearing and seal kit was £140 but probably only needed the axel oil seal and to tighten one of the bearings. But with the wheel spacers and the 37's I thought it best to do the lot:thumb2

The front spacers needed a bit of a trim on the lathe to clear a notch on the hubs. but they allow the 37's to clear the front suspension arms quite nicely:clap

Hopefully I will get the front spacers on theis weekend and either do the axel or the front wheel arches to match the rears.

Alex; Photos to follow:thumbs
