Does anyone have a couple of drive shaft circlips please ? Black Pearl's are not where I left them :lol

Why bother, I never re-fitted mine on the Maverick or on my Terrano :sly
They actually can't move with or without them in I've found, I've been under a mates and his came out by hand :nenau

There's defo movement in the shaft and I think the circlip keeps the shaft end in the right place within the CV .
I'll have a better look at the manual and see .

If that does turn out to be the case then make that x4 we are now looking for :kissy

The clips also serve to keep the reluctor ring aligned with the abs sensor.

Mine doesn't have reluctor rings, as no ABS, only if a circlip is designed to be there in normal operation, then a circlip needs to be replaced.
We all know, if Nissan see a chance to remove grease nipples off the front propshaft, to save a few pence, then I'm certain they would save 2p (cost) of a circlip.:nenau

extracted from the fa section of workshop manual regarding setting end float/axial play on front drive shafts:
(3) Measure axial end play of drive shaft.
Axial end play: 0.1 - 0.3 mm (0.004 - 0.012 in)
(4) If axial end play is not within the specified limit, select another snap ring.
1.1 mm (0.043 in)
1.3 mm (0.051 in)
1.5 mm (0.059 in)
1.7 mm (0.067 in)
1.9 mm (0.075 in)
2.1 mm (0.083 in)
2.3 mm (0.091 in)
Given the small increments of snap ring size (.2mm), it would suggest the shaft should be pretty precisely located, and certainly not drifting about!

the circlip not only holds the shaft in when you break one but it also holds the brake ring in place the idea of the different thicknesses is to keep the ring square, Rick, ps have a few clips for sale £20 each :rolleyes:

you will be OK if you have fixed hubs, but if auto then they will be unreliable, if work at all, Rick

There are two circlips on the shaft. The first ones I need are here in the pic before the manual hub goes on.
This I think is just the circlip and then the end float thing happens on the hub end ?

No fixed hubs do not use the groove nearest the hub only the outer one after the fixed hub is on, and it's only purpose is to stop the CVJ disappearing into the night if you break a shaft, although at full lock I guess it could withdraw a bit more than desired, I will pop acouple of clips in the post, Rick

So I was ciurious as my shafts only had one of two circlips on then, I can't remember if they were the inner or the outer though.
What do we suspect the difference is for? :nenau
