View Full Version : Weller Chrome Steels
I've got another set of wheels with a near identical pattern to mine, they are slightly heavier though as they are chrome.
They are a bit scabby but when Powder Coated will look like mine as can be seen here

I'll get some pics up tomorrow
Looking for £50 collected :thumb2

Identical wheels mate, they are 15's and same offset
I'll get some pics up of them later tonight if I make it home in the light :doh
They are a lot heavier and are chrome but have gone scabby, probably better nick than mine when I brought them but after a powdercoat they will look immense
2nd dibs if Alex doesn't have them.

do not want to put a downer on them but arnt the tyres supposed to be covered by the wheel arches in law for road use.

Well the garage at my work said that they'd pass it for MOT so :nenau

They'll pass an MOT but are not legal. If you get a know all plodmiester you'll get nicked. The "tread" must be covered , no worries on the wall though. A quick trim of a bit of UPVC screwed up to underside of the plastic wing trims will see you right. Spray to colour match or back to black. It can look very good and will cost you :D
In theory the wheels/tyres should not protrude further than the wheel arches. :augie

Nope, only the tread . The wheel and tyre-wall may protrude .

many years ago in my garage i used to customise a lot of minis, escorts, cortinas etc, wide wheels wide arches etc for on road and off road track cars.
the legality of it was always sorted as i did not want my garage to brake the law.
now i have been out of the trade many years so laws change.

Alex, just mentioning this in case you haven't thought about it but you know your current tyres are 16" right? (and so won't fit on these rims) :nenau

Thanks mate for the heads up, it's for future tyres :thumbs
I was actually curious how wide these rims were. Trying to calculate what the maximum width tyres are that would fit on this rim compared to 35" tyres for example, nothing in stone yet but I'm defo taking these wheels
You will need at least 10 j rims for 35"wide tyres.
They look like an 8j wheel with zero off set, possibly -20 but hard to tell by just looking at the pics.
Should be stamped on the rim somewhere.
Biggest tyres I would fit on an 8j are 33".
If it's the same rule for cars your allowed 30mm wheel poke aslong as the tread is inside the arch and not showing.

Cheers Elty, correct me if I'm wrong but surely I can get 35" or 38" whatever I fancy so long as the tyre width is no bigger than maximum spec for an 8j?
I don't want super wide tyres as I have heard negative feedback in mud :thumb2
So in a nutshell will be looking for some skinny but big tyres, perhaps 33s perhaps 35s not sure yet :o
Yeah the diameter of the tyre is not the problem it's the width, but you have to think about the centre of gravity.
I keep it simple, what ever height I go up I also go out to help with stability.
Also depends on how common the tyre size is or if it's even available.

I tried 33 x 12.5 tyres and were pretty poor in the wet gloopy mud.
I've gone back to 10.5 wide now and there's a definite benefit. As such will fit on 8J wheels :D

so either 12.50 or 10.50 will fit on 8J :nenau
if thats the case, thats perfect.

12.5 will "fit" 8 but not recommended. 2" each way is a good guide. My alloys are 8.5 J no probs on 10.5 obviously but on the limit with 12.5" The narrower the wheel with wider tyres makes for a lot of tyre wall wallow, and a greater chance of loosing a seal off road ;)

Just found this set up, most people saying it's ok, just wondering what a 265 is as this is big enough :thumb2
"35 X 12.50 X 15 on 8" rim...... no problem do it all day"
What's a 265 width? That's what I'm on now? :nenau
265mm wide:thumbs Would need the profile hight as well to work it out the hight of the tyres:augie Just get them bought off Banshee, Alex:thumbs & you won't have to worry about metric to imperial conversions any more as you can buy 33.10.5.15 tyres:augie

Was just trying to figure out what my current width is in the yank conversion, I'm 265, don't care for the height. :thumb2
Edit - buy yeah pretty damn sure I'm having these wheels!
Just wanna make sure I can fit either a 33" or possibly a skinny 35 if I go that route.
Edit edit lol

Your current tyres in old money are 32 10.50x16
If I remember correctly.
A lot of re moulds tend to be slightly bigger because of the carcass used for the re tread.

Wicked okie dokie, not fussed about height for the time being, just width that could be an issue. I'm not having much luck, I was on many tyre size convertes yesterday, they are not clear, and half the time unless you know the size complete it wont populate. Basically I will be looking for more or less the same width tyre, one for the rim and two so it's not so sluggish. There seems to be a common size of 34/10.50/15 :nenau
33 10.50 15 are a fairly common size.
Stick the size in the search in ebay and it will bring up some matches and a lot more besides.
This will give you an idea of what is on the market and prices.

Hey dude, I just searched that size with limited results, seems 33/12.50/15 is much more common :nenau
I know a few stressed on here about squeezing onto rim, but should be ok :thumb2

Alex mate, squeezing it onto the rim is nothing to do with it.
A 12.5" wide tyre will fit onto a 8" wide rim but the risk is that because it is being pinched in by the 4.5" narrower rim then an impact on the tyre when offroading could make the tyre pop off the rim... and then you're knackered :nenau
12.5" is hell of a wide anyway, equivalent to 315mm ie 50 mm wider than your current tyre. When it comes to mud the narrower tyre will be far better at cutting through it.
