So, long, bulky, but not very heavy...

Now if it was Alex... and he has recently returned from Iceland, I'd say it was a pair of Terrano skis, like on James Bond's car, the wheels sit on the ski, one each side.

Now, as you are not Alex :augie then it could be a portable tent, or an awning.

but all tents are portable :lol:lol

it is indeed an awning for the truck, its one thats designed for the side of a house with arms etc. to wind it in and out, we've got it to basically turn the truck into a mobile stall for carboots and craft fairs, save the time of having to put a stall together, simple case of wind it out, a piece of tarm and each side and a table underneath job done, its actually one of these

which i won on auction for the princely sum of £36 and that included delivery :lol

Good idea that.
Would like a small one that just goes over the back door for when out laning and a shelf on the back door to hold a stove etc.
Feel another project coming on:lol

Got one of those side awnings that you can fit a tent under and an extra awning to go beyond that.
The weather has been a bit too cold and windy to give it a proper test.

well we're hoping it will make setting up and putting away quicker, will also come in handy at the local beaches for a bit of shade

I have a couple of karabiners fastened to the ends of the roof rails. Then a tarp and a couple of poles from an old gazebo. Cheap enough and gives a bit of shelter over tailgate, if its heavy rain I get an odd drip but nothing I can't cope with.

That's not to say a nice roller blind awning wouldn't be nice though.

the plan is to extend round from the side to the tail gate area with a tarp from the awning, this would give a bit more room as well as a seating area for us out of the weather and a nice storage area with easy access as the door could be left open

I like the look of them but they are bit pricey just for occasional use.
A nice simple pull out one will do me if I can find a narrow one.
All seem to be too wide for my idea.

I've made one for the rear door just need to get some longer bungies but it's a tarp that go's over the roof & rear door (door locked into position & yes there is a lock on them all:thumb2 ) bungie cord to each rear door handle or wheel from rear of tarp & a bungie cord to the rear door handle then an old gazebo pole with a bolt at the top which go's through eyelet on tarp & 2 guild ropes off the pole job done:thumbs
