Got the truck booked in for the mot today.
Spent the last couple of weekends cutting and welding the tin worm infested sills and inner wings.
Will see how it goes.

Trol's due middle of March but I'm going to have to stick it in the next week or two to get the radiator crossmember done as it's rotten and radiator has actually sagged on the passenger side because of it :doh

Unfortunately welding isn't in my abilities (yet) so planning to get the same garage I used to fit my flywheel and sort my swivel bearings to give me a quote on sorting it as they'll also be doing my MOT (my guess is they can just cut out the rotten part and replace with some box but will see what they say). I'll put the old plastic bumper back on in an effort to make it easier for them and bring the labour costs down as they won't then have to faff around with a heavy winch bumper and the winch cables etc (tbh them not buggering up my winch is as much behind refitting the old bumper as keeping the costs down! :augie). Can buy the crossmember separate but it needs to be welded into the rest of the front frame so it would have to go to the garage anyway :(

Depending on the quote from the garage the alternative is that I buy a whole new front frame, take a long weekend off and just fit it myself. I reckon it should be a case of just unbolting the lights, bumper, radiator etc, unbolting the old frame from the rest of the body and fitting the new one. so reckon buying the whole frame may be simplest :nenau

I'll be around £500 inc delivery for the whole front frame and around £300 inc delivery for the crossmember on it's own so there's not a lot in it if the garage think the labour will be excessive.

How close is the garage? I'd just drive there without any bumper.

Shame you don't live closer dude, I would of done it or even know a handful of decent car welders.

It shouldn't cost much to make one from thin box and replace :)

It's about 10 miles from where I live so I'll need to fit something :rolleyes: - there are closer garages of course but I've used this particular one a few times over the past year and, apart from them losing my sump guard (which I've not bothered to pursue any further as I would have taken it off for fitting the lift anyway), I trust them to do a good job and not stiff me on the price. They're open on a Saturday morning and my firm has an office near to them so I can just work from there for the day if I need to go in mid week.

Yeh hoping it should be fairly simple although some of the Aus sites mention it can be difficult to weld to as the frame is multi layered?

Your indicators are in the headlights right? I doubt you will have any issue without a front bumper but I guess the line of work you are in not worth the risk maybe?

Yeh the Y61's weren't as popular as the Terrano's and you sometimes pay for it in the cost of parts :doh

Yeah nothing major which is always nice.
Have got a couple of spare track rods somewhere in the shed but probably quicker to drive to motor factors and buy a new one :lol
Need to sort my shed out as it looks like my eldest daughter has been lodging in there:rolleyes:

Shed???? I got a 45 ft x 25 ft barn full to the brim, with a mezzanine deck, can hardly walk in, plus workshop and several other buildings all overflowing, but in this order of disorder I have a fair idea of what is where, it is just that in searching for one item things get moved and other items covered/buried so next time when I think I know where an item is it is not to be found, until later when looking for something else, such is life, Rick

Just shows how quick they wear out on a lifted truck as I only did them last April.
To be honest I could have got away with just greasing up the track rod end, got the greasable ones on and a few pumps with the grease gun tightened It back up but it looks like it had took a good knock so I changed it just as a matter of course.
