Last week ended up getting talked into buying a trail bike.
Went on it yesterday, the first time on a bike in over 30 years and had a right good time.
I need to get myself some boots, body armour etc.
Would like some advice on best makes, value and place to buy as I'm more vague on this stuff than 4x4's:eek:

Been 3 years since I had one.would love another.always loved fast road bikes but a moto x would be cool for exploring green lanes:D.
As for kit Heine gereke sell good stuff.not sure on that spelling.
Good time of year to buy bike stuff on eBay too

Not sure about kit, I just asked about locally.

I have a KX 125, Even with a small engine it can be a bit of a beast

I haven't ridden quickly off-road for a while now (tend to ride more trail/trials when I get the chance these days), but my gear is a mish-mash of all sorts (jacket is Alpinestars, boots are Oxtar, jeans are Balance, helmet is Bell, goggles are Oakley). I'm not sure armour is needed unless you intend on racing or falling off a lot but that's just my preference.

It really only matters what you're comfortable in and I would try hard not to buy anything without trying it on first - I know that means you may have to travel but it can get quite uncomfortable off-road on a bike and if you choose the wrong clothing it can take all the fun out of it.

The last time I was going quickly off-road was on a WR450 over there in Spain so I know it gets very dusty. With that in mind the other things I would consider is a camel-back for drinking water if you're going distances rather than round a track, and a bandana type thing to cover your mouth and nose to keep the dust out.

What bike did you get?

Ian

body armour is just another name for bag, its just there to keep limbs together, they will still break bruise and hurt but at least when you cant feel your hand you will be assured its still in your glove

like they say no pleasure without a bit of pain

Thanks for all the replies.
This is what I brought it's a Peugeot 50cc.
Now if you all stop laughing :lol I gave 75€ for it and it made me bum twitch:eek:
After a couple of hours my ankles hurt and my knees felt like I had, had a marathon knee trembler:lol
Hence the need for boots etc.
And a decent skid lid, the one I borrowed made me look like I was about to be fired out of a cannon, or off delivering pizza.
Have got a few leads over here and plan to get a carrier to fit on the tow bar, so I can rag the truck about as well :thumb2

Looks like good fun indeed! Is it two stroke? Looks like it? :nenau

The 50ccs can be deresteicted too, just remember to add two stroke oil like clockwork :clap

Oh and get some guards for the fork stanchions to stop stone chips pitting them, otherwise they will rub on fork seal (upside down on this) and piss out all the oil :thumbs

I had motorcycle from 16-30 years of age then gave it up until I was 45 (1993) and bought an XJ 900 Yamaha for my mid-life crisis!

Absolutely loved the rush when I opened her up. I kept and used her every summer until 2011 when I struggled to pull her up on the centre stand. I decided that at the then age of 63 it was time to be a bit more sensible.

I sold all my gear but kept my crash helmet just in case my bucket list includes one last bike. It's a bikers thing once you have had one the desire to ride agin never completely leaves you.lol

I did some off roading in my teens and loved it, I envy your new found buzz!
