Just got back from a visit to our daughter in Chester and there was a NHS letter waiting for the Missus.

Appointment for this Tuesday for a Sigmoidoscopy and Endoscopy all on the same day with CT Scan to follow in the next 2 weeks. Naturally she is suitably terrified as her GP has hit the fast track button after a visit last Thurday.

We are hoping its nothing too sinister. Oh the joys of old age.

Best wishes for her, there is never a good time for this, but it just seems so much worse when it happens at this time of year. Fingers crossed it's just a scare and it will help you appreciate even more what you have now.

Good Luck

Lets hope your doctor is being over cautious and playing it safe.
All the best for next week, and I hope you get good news.

Sounds like there's something they're uncertain about and nothing to worry about too much. Wait and see what they say on Tues.
Good luck.

Thanks for all your words of support its been a real help to share it with someone as at present the wife quite understandably does not want to tell her elderly parents unless she has to.

Its fear of the unknown makes her think the worst. Once we have the diagnosis and can get a handle on it then we can come to terms with whatever it is.

I am hoping its something benign connected to having had her gal bladder out about 12 years ago. That operation was keyhole and went wrong in that she had a serious infection and was hospitaised four times over a twelve month period afterwards. Three admissions went as far as pre-med and into the operating theatre where the consultant decided not to open her up. Eventually a special course on injected antibiotics did the trick so not operating turned out to be the right decision.

I will post again when we have know the score luckily I am a "the glass is half full man" so am quite positive.

A Merry Christmas and great New Year to all our members.

Well yesterday it was the Endoscopy & Sigmoidoscopy for the wife. They took a few biopsies during the procedures but nothing nasty seen so far just tests for collitus bacteria whilst they were in there so as to speak.

It was quite painful for her as she has multiple abdominal adhesions as a result of surgery some 30 years ago. The adhesions she has is something she has to live with as surgical intervension would cause them to spread even more extensively.(Its a common woman problem if they have had ovaries removed)

They have found she has a Hiatus Hernia but that is pretty common if you are over 50 and the symptoms are very manageable.

Final bit is the CT colonoscopy sometime early in the new year so we should soon know what the source of her pain is. Our house was much cheerier when we got home yesterday afternoon even though she was a little sore and gassed up.

As a matter of fact I am cooking the bird as she is at work from 7.30 am until 12.30pm on a short early shift at the local hotel where she works on the reception desk.

Next appointment is on the 6th January 2015 so all in all its a brilliant service from the NHS and our local hospital.

A lot of people forget the poor souls who have to work on Christmas day, but jobs still need to be done, I'll raise a glass to all who have to work today.

The NHS gets some bad press, but they do a bloody great job and we would be a poorer nation without it, I know most people pay into it (I won't go there) but they still give a sterling service.

Well today it was the last day we hope of the rather unpleasant testing.

It was only an hour in the scan room but no answers yet, it was due to be 4 sets of X-rays in the scanner but they doubled it to 8 sets to get a closer look. I am hoping its just the old adhesion causing the pain.

Just a wait now to see the top Consultant - finger crossed appointment pending. I guess if its bad new its ASAP if things are not too bad might have to wait a tad longer.

On the bright side Ernie paid her £100 so it might be a lucky Omen !!

Congrats on ERNIE... we were talking about that the other day, wondering if premium bonds still existed.
