View Full Version : Car Tax question!
hey guys,
I got my renewal for my TAX September, and knowing the new system was coming October 1st and that you could pay monthly, I held off taxing. Normally I cant afford a full year, but this way is easier for me.
Anyway, I couldn't tax it the way I wanted so I sorned the car - I was planning to do that anyway as I have some servicing to do, and I figure I will be able to re tax it later under the new system
for a giggle, I tried it online just now, but it says I cant "As there has already been a successful transaction for this vehicle a new transaction cannot be undertaken at this time"....helpful.....when can I tax it?!:nenau

The whole system has crashed mate, every one and his dog is trying to get info and the beloved DVLA system cannot handle it, give it a week or so and it may recover, if it has not been hacked? Rick

Might be worth keeping the old tax disc anyhow, :nenau, if customers can't get on the web site, maybe the police can't either.
Maybe they will come up with a great idea that is fool proof, like...
lets have proof of the payment, say visible from outside the vehicle, with... let's say the expiry date on it...
Oh they could fix it on the inside of the windscreen....:doh:doh:doh
The problem is... we had an indication every time we use the vehicle when we can see the old tax disc.... now who will remember to tax it, and plan for it, when the disc has gone?

I now have in the motor the receipt from the post office which includes the Reg, a copy of the emailed insurance docs, and the MOT, so if stopped I am OK, but and it is a big but, if my motor is parked and a DVLA team check it out and find cos the system is slow that it does not meet their requirements and is lifted onto a recovery motor ??????????????????????????? Rick
cheers chaps, youre probably right, all over the news and internet anyway. Cant say I am surprised that they messed it up, was bound to happen because Government+DVLA+major taxation change = cockup

Well the odd one on this site might think this is true...:doh
Talking of recovery trucks, we were driving down the M42 the other day, and saw loads of Brand new Land Rovers on the back of a delivery truck..
I said to my wife... they had better get used to this method of transport.

Luckily I was able to get to the post office to get tax and I folded the receipt so just the vehicle details show and stuck it in front of the old tax disc so it can be seen from the outside.

As a reminder for me and I can't believe tickets or clamps won't be thrown about when they've spotted a vehicle with no tax disc.
