Tagging system?

I've been thinking, possibly a way to draw someone's attention to a thread without a pm, if it were possible to start typing their name it tries to self populate (like in a pm)

And for example if someone has mentioned me in a thread, upon viewing it in "new posts" it could be red for example :thumb2

What y'all reckon?
