View Full Version : new to site - saying hello
hi folks,
I've just joined the site, thanks for having me along.
I recently purchased a 1997 Terrano 2,150K,2.7TD intercooled. (or Mistral as its badged here in NZ)
I am looking to explore what options i have for upgrading it for moderate off road use.
I also have developed some issues I'd like to sort out sooner rather than later - one being a leak from the sunroof and the other being the auto box is now not selecting its last gear.
any help would be great but ill search the site for info to start with.
thanks folks
regards
dave
I also have a mistral.
Cannot help with the sun roof.
The symptoms you describe about no top gear - or overdrive as it is on the Mistral.
The symptoms are that the gearbox does not gold torque lock in top.
There is mo mechanical or electrical bypass like there in on a land rover.
The problem with mine was the gearbox ECU (brain) I changed the brain and all was good.
The ECU is (on mine anyway) is not in where the manual says it is.
The Brain was behind the rear quarter panel in the load area on the drivers side.
The manual says that the brain is in the centre under the dash board behind the radio
The brain is plug and play no programming was needed.
Mine was a 2.7td non intercooler
Good luck and welcome

...the auto box is now not selecting its last gear.
Have you got an overdrive button on the side of the auto shift stick, like my T2? If I press that, it will not go into top gear and you can use engine braking for going downhill... but you should have a light on the dash when it is being used.

No nothing about the Terano but on the Patrol when sunroof leaks it is normally the drains, this is a tube that runs down from corner to front wing, fills with crap and runs into car.

Welcome aboard.
Surely cheapest and easiest thing to try is change the auto box fluid.
As said check sun roof drains are still attached under the head lining. Also the bottom of the drain tubes are at the front end of the sills mud flap area and get full of crud. Blast it all away with a hose, also open the front doors and blast out below the bottom hinge where crud collects behind the wings.
Slide sunroof all the way back and gently pour water in the recess where youll see the sunroof drains.
My sunroof actually leaked water between the glass and rubber seal, forced tiger seal between rubber and glass.
