You could always use the Ubuntu OS as an alternative to Windows, now that is a mind F'k.

Bloody computers. Although I do have a crazy custom pc :augie I must admit all my forum chatting and picture snapping is from my ipad mini. It's so easy to use.. And the battery is great, usually 4/5 days.. And that's with heavy forum use :augie

if remembering to do it is an issue Rick, AutoBackup!

you can use OneDrive for example to automatically backup your documents and photos for example.
After that the programs etc are the tricky part, you cant back them up.

Windows can be a pain I know, but to be fair, Apples OS isn't that much better these days.

as for your lappy, I am surprised it has somehow refreshed itself, can you elaborate? Is it that one day you logged in, and everything was changed?

In my experience, when you first buy a computer, it will be the fastest it will ever be.
Then as you add programs, firewall, virus protection, it is down hill all the way.:doh

I use my ipad 99% of the time, the other day, I went to the old computer, windows XP, :doh and it took ages to warm up, time to make a cup of tea... and drink it.
Then I ran Malware bytes, full scan, and then did a defrag of the drive.
A day later.........:augie
Didn't appear to make any difference whatsoever...:doh

Then I realised none of my printers worked as the ink had dried up...
So I'm still working on those, managed to get one printing black only so far...

I think the way forward will be a wifi linked printer.

Why do we have to accept that modern technology, although quite cheap in real terms, has to be replaced regularly.:doh

Built in obsolescence.

If only Nissan made computers....
