View Full Version : Right to dispose of rubbish?

So long story short, we live on a street with a small "housing estate" off of us. On occasion, today included, I filled up with 2 barrels and placed the barrels in the "communal" wheelie bins.

Just now I have seen that someone has dumped them on the other side of our road opposite out house.

Do I actually have the right to dispose of them there as it is a bin?

We know there is a miserable bastard who has a garage near the bins and also a caretaker who were both walking near when we put the barrels in the bin.

This is boiled my blood a little and want to know the best solution.

If it's not your bin you are technically fly tipping:o had to get this checked out as next door to us kept dumping their rubbish in our bin:eek: can you not get shot of some of the barrels at work failing that best go to the tip

The bin i used is a communal bin for 30/40 homes or more, it's a big concrete structure with stairs and 4 holes from the top, with wheelie bins inside.

Not his private bin (although not mine either)

Perhaps I should not get petty about it but it's boiled my blood somewhat :sly

I'm not going to make comment here as I do this often with the public bins in the street :lol

I've started "Russian Dolling" all of my empty 20l cubies and black bagging them and putting them in our normal household rubbish but the cheeky barsteward bin men keep taking them out and dropping them on the floor in front of our house, when I confronted them about it they claimed it was a criminal offence to dispose of commercial waste in househould bins :nenau

Rather than argue the toss, I know a man who knows a man who has obtained me a key for the lids of all the public bins in Sandwell :lol, now I just drive round with the trailer on and drop a bag in each and lock it back up :lol

Obviosuly nowhere near my house :augie

I get the same story there buddy!!!!!! Depending who is on the gate and have been turned away many a time, these days I can't be bothered to argue and just remove myself from the situation as I have a very short fuse and would probably get myself in trouble by starting a fight

Can't afford to lose my job over a scuffle over veg oil tubs

Thats why I use the plastic carton veg oils. Recycle the cardboard and plastic container.

There is the nub. As has been mentioned if its not your bin you can not really put rubbish in it.

Is there not a "Recycling" facility nearby you could take them to? Drop the plakka ones in with the "hard plastics" bin and metal ones in the metal skip? Thats what I have done in the past without issue. The only one I struggled to get rid of that way was a red 20L barrel that some cherry came in (for genny use on the barge) :augie

Then Freecycle came to my rescue - there isnt anything that cant be Freecyled!

Good man.
Are these barrels metal or plastic ?
Recycle them easily enough. I can see no reason at all for putting them in rubbish. That's just bloody naughty.
We have less than a black bin bag of rubbish a month, all the rest we recycle.

These are the 20l metal barrels of ktc. There are skips at Sainsbury's but they don't fit in.. :nenau

Obviously I don't want to become a fly tipper :lol

Have you tried crushing them smaller so they don't really look like barrels anymore? The metal is pretty thin.

Anything metal around here gets picked up by the " tatters' We seem to have several passes a day. They don't cherry pick either, they take all.

Neighbourhood watch and the police suggest it isn't done.:augie

Can be a problem though if you are mowing the front lawn and the house phone goes lol...:nenau

We also keep the garage door shut, as they seem to have photographic memories and know exactly what you have.

When I put my old Mav tank out, I timed it, 20 minutes.... gone...

But I kept the sender unit out of the tank as a working spare...

Would be easy to do just put a big plank of wood on top of the barrel & drive over it that would flatten it down nicely:lol
