Having had my Terrano for over a year I asked two weeks ago what sort of mileage return I could expect.Pulling my 1200kg caravan I manage around 23 mpg but I had never tested without.
Taking members advice re rpm I have just done a 320 mile journey up through France ,kept the rpm around 2500 and speed about 60. The "Beast" has returned 34.6 mpg.I am very pleased,thank for all advice.

Secondly , the vehicle had a new clutch fitted prior to me buying, but when the clutch pedal is depressed,on most occasions I have to help it back with my toe.
Any advice please.Oh yes I had a new spring fitted at the top end of the pedal.

There's a naf little plastic bush in the pedal assembly, got a brass replacement from a fellow member and now mine returns nice n smooth.
I believe others have had issues with the slave cylinder and flexi hose too.

By the way that's cracking mpg

Jon i have a 2002 3ltr and 1200kg caravan towing i get 27.8 and thats doing 60/65 and 33.6 solo .

no secret iam a retired H G V driver so its foot down . checked it last bank hol week end from North Yorkshire to llandudno tank full to tank full on the best Shell.

Yup, I've done my master cylinder (full of silver sludge) still no better, then did slave and hose with a full bleed, lastly clutch pedal bush replaced for brass one, now she's good :thumb2

Hopefully doing leak off hoses as this seemed to give a clutch slip syndrome.

Has not happened since but yeah clutch feels great!

It sounds to me as this may be the problem,however unlike most members in the Club I am not at all mechanically minded so have to rely on garages to do the work for me.
We are back in England for the next four weeks so it is a good opportunity to get things done.
Can anyone give me an idea of cost and hours required to do such work.
As I said it had a new clutch installed about 20months ago, and sometimes the clutch pedal does return on its own, it was only over the last weekend visiting relatives here in Devon and having to negotiate very narrow windy country roads which required a lot of clutch pedal work that it was sticking more.
Incidentally it comes straight back when pulled up with my toe.

Any advice would be happily received, also if anyone knows of any garages in the Chagford Devon area that are not rip off merchants I would be very grateful for the advice.

It's probably more a case of minimum charge the garage has. It's literally a 5 minute job. Send Bigbunny a PM to see if he has any bushes left. He made a few up and sold them for charity. Ideal now you are in blighty for a while.
