well today i was going to fix my zorst as the flexi on the downpipe had bust, the plan was to replace the lot with some nice 2.5" ss :naughty

anyway got under there and found this

https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/10167951_10152306317772649_6915389421547981162_n.j pg

so i whipped the little bugger out

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1.0-9/10291058_10152306317907649_9087074892928445889_n.j pg

with it being bank holiday weekend and there nowhere to buy a replacement and living 8 miles from anything in any direction i decided to weld the bugger back together

so chucked a nice big thick weld on it

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/t1.0-9/10247192_10152306317857649_4753755302353089446_n.j pg

i then caressed it lovingly with a lump hammer to test the weld would hold and it did so i chucked it back in, as long as i dont go mental going over speed humps etc. it should hold now til i can get a new one

and yes i can see all that rust under there but i've ordered a sand blaster kit so that will soon be gone and rust treated and painted a nice shade of chassis black

its only a temp fix till i can get a new one next week, as long as you weld it right it wont deform very much, and if you look at pics its a lot less deformed than it was :lol :lol :lol

you were safer leaving it as is or shorter than welding it. it will end up snapping around a corner.

You won't snap the welded bit Fez. Another bit might though :lol
As the break was very near the end of the spring I said weld the bugger. Agreed not a good plan in the main "working" part if the spring. That said I've got a weld repair on one of the T2 springs but no idea which one any more and it's not fallen off yet. If you want to be really posh, you could fire the whole thing red hot and cool down again :)

I welded a truck leaf spring many years ago, veed it well so the weld went right through, then ground it off so weld could not be seen and no stress raisers then heated that part up cherry red several times immersing it in case hardening compound, then re heated several more to spread the hardening into the core, two years later it was still good, Rick

Unlikely but a weld won't react the same way as the spring.

Noooooo way, let's just say its lucky i don't have a monster truck. Some of the drivers round these ends are horrifically terrible. Makes the worst learners look great :doh

I'm starting to hate driving these days, it's getting more and more stressful. If it's not aggression it's either plain ignorant or stupidity.
