I hope you didn't work on it while it was only on the jack.:augie

I always have a minimum of two things that will support the truck under any circumstance, if I use axle stands when I take a wheel off, I put the wheel under the chassis, and make up the gap with thick timber.
I always assume that an axle stand could collapse, or the vehicle could slide off ( due to all the waxoyl lol:doh) if I am getting a bit physical with the socket set.

My uncle once warned me about steel welded ramps, I was young at the time, he said they could crack at anytime. So that made me cautious.

Are the guards swappable?

Nissan were fitting these diff's in the US before we got them & they seem to hold up ok:augie I was gutted to find I had a plastic tank guard on mine:doh not sure how easy they are to change but would rather have a steel one fitted even tho I managed to bend one badly & dent my tank when laning in the Lakes:doh

got no proof of this myself so not going to preach it like its gospel but I've heard that they are a lot weaker than the older ones.

I've read a few members posts on here wherby they've gone out to but a Terrano and left it because it had the later rear diff

j/a.Not Jack ass i presume.Sorry couldn't resist.If it's written and not stamped,it could well be a secondhand diff.
And the mileage of this diff may not tally up with the rest of your truck, just saying.

It put me off a bit TBH but after 04 couldn't find one with the earlier diff so just bit the bullet but on the US forum i'm on there are plenty of Nissan's with the same axle or what looks like it driving Moab routes without any probs:thumb2 The old axles are bomb proof for sure was doing about 18mph & stopped dead after hooking up the diff drain plug on a rock:lol no damage at all just the plug was 1/4" to long but had to use 4WD to drag myself off that bloody rock:lol
