Had to share this with you..... I know the south are having it really bad with flooding and my heart goes out to all who are in a terrible mess :(

We had lots of rain here last week and on my way to work I was being followed closely by a white van man, anyway, there is a section of road that floods quite badly, I saw the water all the way across the road and sticking to the 30 speed limit drove through it without worrying. The wash came all the way over the truck, over the roof and straight onto the white van man behind me! :clap

My good deed for the day :lol

You don't have to stick to the 30mph speed limit if it is unsafe to do so.:doh
The fact it is 30 mph, implies it is probably a residential area, or close to one.

I have seen so many incidents of additional damage caused to property and people by motorists creating bow waves that can cause additional misery to those people already suffering at this stress full time.

I'm not saying you were acting inappropriately or irresponsibly for the conditions, as the puddle might not have been that deep, and I also assume you were aware of what the result of your bow wave, if any, was doing, and were considering that you were not causing distress to others. :thumb2:thumb2

On another matter...
BUT thinking on, having seen vehicle going through much deeper water on the TV, if, heaven forbid, if I was struck by a bow wave whilst walking, like I saw on the TV the other day, or my property was, at further risk of damage, then I would loose my temper. Not often I do.:bow. but when under stress... who knows what can happen.:doh

I'm not saying on a public forum what I would or even could do, but I doubt they would do it again. Yes as I said before... on another thread... I would have a quiet word...:augie

Potential damage to vehicle.
There is also the ram effect of hitting water at 30mph with your vehicle, oil seals like on wheel bearings and drive shafts, designed to keep oil in, and an occasional submersion to 450 mm of water (Nissan Terrano max wading depth) are now facing a " power washing " from the wrong side of the seal, which will inevitably allow water and grit to penetrate the seal area.:doh
I also assume you have a snorkel, if so from what you have said about water over your roof, I hope the scoop was facing rearward.:nenau
There could also be hidden debris, or missing man hole covers under the water.

I for one wouldn't do this, I'm sure a few others wouldn't either... but who knows...:nenau

I understand what you are saying and any other time I wouldn't have done, but this van was really getting on my wick, driving far too close for comfort, and given what just happened to my daughter, having her car written of by someone doing the same but couldn't stop in time makes me angry. I have been driving for 32 years carefully and safely, I wasn't causing damage to property as the houses on this stretch of road are far back from the pavement, but point taken and I consider myself well and truly told off and I'll take my leave.

Dorn, I didn't really tell you off.. :lol:lol and to be honest I may have done the same if he was tail gating, :thumb2 but more of a call for others to think before they act, and it was a good opportunity to mention other consequences.

Sometimes when a car is tail gating, I have the urge to clean my head lights, well you never know if they are clean or not, and you might need them at any time...:augie

My head light washer water goes right over my car, they don't even touch the windscreen, so I don't need to wipe my windscreen. The guy behind is looking everywhere ... where did that come from...:nenau:nenau

Of course it would be totally irresponsible of me to do it when it's an open top sports car behind...:augie

Or a motorcyclist,:)

I don't have any side sprayers..:augie
I rarely get any motorbikes behind me on the motorway... they normally squeeze through the small gap between the 2nd and 3rd lane...:doh

Some weave in and out, and since a lot of people don't indicate when changing lanes, I'm surprised they live for another day.

Why don't people indicate these days, turning left at roundabouts gets me... other traffic could have gone.. inconsiderate *@¥&*$

If people indicate their intentions, eg when changing lanes, it gives other drivers the opportunity to beep the horn, should they have not seen you, but changing lanes without...

At least your truck has had a good chassis wash:lol:lol:lol TBH I take it easy through flood water these days after ripping off the front number plate & hearing the bumper creek due to the weight of the water:doh with the van driver i'd have slowed right down & took it easy so to make as little bow wave as poss behind me in the hope his van sucked up some water:augie

Ha I like that..... I usually do take it easy but he was really p*****g me off and it's not often I get agitated when I'm driving, I have the utmost respect for others on the road and wouldn't have done it otherwise, I think the devil paid me a visit, all I could see in my minds eye was the carnage the other driver did to my daughters car, in hindsight I should have braked, my tow bar would have done more damage to his van  but with my Celica off the road for the winter I need my truck.

Tbh I would have done the same thing, and yeah, it's not the right thing to do but sometimes you just gotta show these guys :lol

Also get a sticker like mine on the rear, it's amazing how well the sign works :lol

Not 1 tailgater since the sticker (not many before)
