Thank's Clive, when you planing on coming down? Rick
Some are called nutserts. or even clinch nuts.
I fitted some M8 ones without a tool...
This is how.. well for M8 anyhow...
take a long M8 bolt, run a M8 nut up the thread, then a washer, then insert the bolt into the nutsert, or rivnut, until all the thread of the nutsert is engaged, insert the nutsert into the hole, then hold the bolt head so that the thread doesn't rotate in the rivnut, and tighten the M8 nut which will then compress the nutsert. When compressed enough, slacken the nut, then withdraw the bolt. In fact, if you can get to the inside, after insertion, and he thread is long enough, you could put a lock nut on the underside to stop it turning whilst you tighten the nut.
Simples...
Do not allow the bolt to turn in the nutsert thread whilst compressing with the nut. OR the thread could strip in the nutsert.

The rivnut tool is very much like the tool you use for fixing to plasterboard, Fastbrolly I think they are called, like this

Dumb Q but are the rails hard to fit ie getting everything lined up:augie have thought about adding some onto mine but the roof is stepped as I don't have a sunroof

I found the rails only fit in the right place.
I put masking tape on roof, then placed the rails where they were happy
Draw round the feet with pen
Then took the feet off and marked hole position on masking tape.
Make sure you drill at the right angle, not 90 degrees to the metal
I have pictures somewhere
The hardest bit was figuring out how to get to the head of the bolt holding the feet each end:doh

fortunately the rails have been removed from a scrapper in my yard so I have all the info I need re hole positions, regards Rick
