Assuming you'r stereo came with a wiring diagram there should be two live connections, one is the main feed and one is the constant or backup feed. This should be a live feed all the time ,even when the ignition is off, saving all the data :)

I reckon the perminant live and the ignition live are the wrong way around. Check the wiring diagram that came with the radio. You may find that if you bought an ISO cable to convert from the Nissan plugs to the stereo that it has bullet connectors to allow you to swap these two cables over. Failing that you may be clever enough to slide a small screwdriver in the plug and dislodge the two terminals and sap that way. Failing that chop and join them.

I always find that if you swap the yellow wire with the red (one being a permanent live, the other a switched live feed) it works. :D

If your using an Iso connector it should work fine:augie i'd check the stereo wiring harness colours match that of the Iso lead but it sounds as the perm live ignition live are the wrong way around (common on vauxhalls) most after market stereo's have bullet connectors on the live feen wires so it easy to swap them around:thumbs
