Having now had a bit of time and evaluated the engine properly, I find it performs very well but is suffering crank case pressure such that after a run it started to idle rough blipped the throttle to try and clear it and it raced to high revs, turned ignition off but no change, slung it in gear quick and stalled it, the oil separator was leaking oil all over the alternator, so upshot is not only is the body rot bad but the engine is bad too, so willing to sell any engine component separately, in fact any thing you want just ask, I will leave it on here for a couple of weeks before sticking it on Ebay, by the way it is Bosch fuel system, regards Rick

All I can say about it is that stationary at idling it rattles, but on the road (with my hearing aids on) no noise at all, compare that to my work motor which is the same but also whines in all but 4th, and it has done that since I got it and that was 35000 miles ago, so I would not be unduly worried, and bear in mind I do a lot of heavy towing, Rick

Are you only doing the engine Rick, or the inside as well?

Reason I ask, we had a full travel mug of tea in the cup holder on mine, when we got hit, and I have since discovered it has split the plastic behind the cup holder, and also snapped all the plastic round the top two fixing holes. I tried glueing it, but it only lasted a little whiles, so I could do with replacing it.

My dash look like this...

You mean the ones that self destruct on removal, I knew this but still it fell to bits as careful as I was however I have two so hopefully can build a good one from the two, as I could just not find one little part, let you know tomorrow, Rick

I have the CD changer, but what I do not have is the wires, as they were part of the loom, or the plate the CD changer fits onto, as I used that to fit my new pioneer changer under the seat.

Sorry Bry both switches are missing bits, if you still have your switch perhaps you have the bits I need to make one whole let me know what bits you have if so, although I have 3 motors so should have 3 switches but only find two so far, if I come across the other I will let you know, Rick

Ah right I have one in imitation wood or another with the 4 switches, will have to look tomorrow to see if removing the two middle switches leaves the right size hole for the cup holder, Rick

Rick, what year is the TDI?
On my wish list would be:

Offside rear electric window motor/regulator if easier complete.
Centre console pair of heater vents if in one piece!
Offside front engine bracket for all the multiplugs.
Potentially the central locking/convenience module and drivers door lock barrel central locking switch depending on price of it all!

Cheers

Window reg OK
Vents OK
Bracket, do you just mean the metal bar all the plugs fit on?
Locking module OK but drivers door lock means change of key? what is the problem with yours, Rick

Cheers... I guess if worst come to worst, I could spray the wood one, if it would fit, but prefer one the right colour.

One the T2's that do not have a cup holder there, do they not have one at all, or is it somewhere else?

no they do not have one at all, will look tomorrow, silly thing is on Sunday I found one in the barn, looked at it and made a decision, but cannot remember what that decision was I have a skip that I am getting rid of not needed stuff and wondered if I put it in there as a plastic bit that is not wise to burn, but no it is not there so I have put it some where safe? year right, all I have to do now is find it, Rick

Yup, metal bar and fixing bolts for the multiplugs.
Offside rear leccy window motor is inoperative
Central locking only locks, will not unlock.
I remember doing some electrical testing when i got the car and condemning the module, but now i think on it again, are they not coded?
There's a sensor on the back of the drivers door lock barrel if i remember right.

Cheers

Bosch Maf = Bosch pump I would think, I have a Zexell on a road going car so can check tomorrow in the daylight, not sure how you prove pump failure on these as it could be lack of correct signal from the ECU, Rayf is the best guy to help on that, Rick

No problem...

As a side, what would you say the Head is like on your one? Mine is not liking starting in this cold weather, and I am worried about trying to change the other glowplugs, since one is already sheared. I think it may be easier to just change the whole head.

I am after a n/s indicator for my mark 2.

Well I know the glow plugs come out as I changed them when I first got it home in order to get it running, and the rad is full of AF water so gasket should be good and the engine performs very well indeed, it is piston blow by on I suspect one piston as it sounds like a low compression on turning over, now this may of course be due to the ceramic bits from a glow plug embedded in to the piston and this could be detrimental to the dead? would not know that with out further examination, perhaps a scope down an injector hole, Rick
