I want to buy two doors for my house, and it will be VERY handy if I can collect them myself...

6' x 3' fence panels fit in right up to the headrests of front seats so you should be okay if you drive while ducking down :thumb2

They should fit, over the headrests of the front seat, so use the rear passenger hand hold on the " B" Pillar, put a strap across this putting the doors as close to the roof as possible, that way if you are rear shunted, they shouldn't de-capitate the front passengers.:eek::eek:
Your risk of course.

You can always travel with the rear door open, it does lock in the open position, with the lower lever.
We have travelled 20 miles with a huge roll of carpet 13 feet long, front passenger seat flat. etc.

You might want to consider taking the rear wheel off, if you do this, save putting a strain on the hinges.

I just wish we could fit 8 x 4 sheets in.
You could in the old Mk IV Cortina Estate, again over the driver's head, but width wise no problem.
There are not many cars that can carry this size, the Kia Sedona can though.

ahh...bugger, doesn't sound like they will fit - though of course I will measure first. I'm certainly not going to mess about and risk it because it isn't worth it, but ill have a measure this weekend.

actually...it might be doable safely. Just did a quick measure. The doors im looking at are 196cm long, so that's just over the heads, but 76 wide, so that swell inside the area around the passenger seat:thumbs

As rustic says, some strapping etc and it should be doable. The doors are local too. Im going to have a good think about it.

are you to it them clive? i can lend you an elctric plainer if you wish.. and if they are pine doors it might pay to unpack for a couple of days and leave them in the room were your going to fit as they migh shrink of expand due to moisture..

I have pushed the front passenger seat as far forward as possible before to get items in, it may help you

Have done this:
Tie a ratchet strap between the two handles above the back rear passenger doors and leave some slack. Put he doors in then tighten up the strap to pin the end of the doors on an angle against the roof above the front seats. I moved 4 doors at the same time this way. Simples

not sure yet but I think so - I don't know yet if im buying used ones, or new ones, but the loan of the plainer may well be a great idea mate I appreciate that.

Should fit, I've carried them before now. Also had a big shower cubicle and tray from B&Q. Might pay you to take both cars if Mrs is going with you and then you don't have to worry about taking up the passenger seat space. I reckon slide both front seats forward and fold both rear rows down and you'll have stacks of space.

top tip for hanging doors, put the old door on top of new door and draw around it, aslong as the old door had the fit you wanted of course.
